tried it a few minutes ago and it works for me so far. is there another
service running which uses the default tor-ports?

As of a couple days ago, Ubuntu bug #261693
[https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/261693] was resolved, adding Tor
version 0.2.0.31-1 to the latest beta release of Intrepid Ibex. As
this is the first 0.2.x deb to be included in Ubuntu, it would be very
helpful to get testers before the release goes
