Network Engineer

Location: Pleasanton



Experience with switches/routers, VX, Cloud services and technologies.



Must be a self-starter and able to run projects with minimal guidance.

*Will need to travel to Sacramento data center on occasion.*



CLIENT is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support a
multi-vender, multi-tiered data center network and to work as a team member
of both internal department and cross-department groups.



JOB DUTIES

*•                       Install, configure, manage and troubleshoot
Routers, switches and firewalls from leading manufactures such as Cisco,
Juniper, Checkpoint, Fortigate, F5 and other vendors. *

•                       Familiarity with Linux IPTABLES.

•                       Configure Layer2 and Layer 3 protocols.

•                       Assist with networking audits, reporting tracking
security events and tracking reported risks to resolution.

•                       Work with customers to select proper connectivity
solutions for customer to access to company data centers either over
private lines or VPNs.

•                       Perform software upgrades on Cisco, Check Point,
Extreme, Foundry, Juniper and other equipment vendors.

•                       Implement, monitor and maintain network performance
information of corporate and production networks.

•                       Document and maintain network designs and
configurations.

•                       Document and maintain network infrastructure,
procedures, configurations.

•                       Ensure routers, switches and firewalls are in
compliance with company’s network and security policies and practices.

•                       Provide network trouble-shooting services to
internal and external departments, groups and customers with varying skill
levels using various packet sniffer tools and network logs..

•                       Interact with CLIENT customers on gaining access to
CLIENT data centers.

•                       Provide 24x7 on call support when needed.

•                       Traveling to work on-site at data centers for at
least a week when required.

•                       Work closely with internal and external departments
and groups to analyze requirements and develop solutions for both internal
company projects and external customer projects.





QUALIFICATIONS

•                       Knowledgeable of network routers, switches,
loadbalancers, IPS including but not limited to Cisco, Extreme, Foundry and
Juniper.

•                       Knowledgeable of firewall technologies including
but not limited to Check Point NGX, Cisco PIX, FW IOS, Fortinet and
Juniper-Netscreen firewalls.

•                       Knowledgeable of VPN technologies including, but
not limited to IPSec, SSL, and PPTP  with vendors including but not limited
to Check Point, Cisco and Juniper

•                       Knowledgeable of Layer2 protocols including but not
limited to Spanning Tree, VLAN tagging and Link Aggregations protocols.

•                       Knowledgeable with BGP, EIGRP and OSPF routing
protocols.

•                       Knowledgeable on QoS strategies, configurations and
troubleshooting.

•                       Knowledgeable of network communications of SMTP,
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SFTP, FTPS, SOAP, PING, TRACEROUTE, and Microsoft Active
Directory

•                       Knowledgeable of TCP/IP protocol.

•                       Knowledgeable of security practices and tactics and
system hardening procedures including but not limited to Cisco, Extreme,
Foundry, Juniper, Linux, Windows XP and Windows 2003.

•                       Knowledgeable with UNIX and Microsoft NT network
environments

•                       Ability to fully read network packet captures with
Tcpdump, Snoop, Wireshark, or Observer.

•                       Ability to trouble-shoot TCP/IP communications at a
packet level, through statefull firewalls, VPN’s or on LAN networks.

•                       Ability to work cross functionally in a positive
and supportive manner with internal and external teams and customers.

•                       Ability to practice good judgment in dealing with
unforeseen issues that may arise.

•                       Ability to assess complex problems and situations
and make sound decisions.

•                       Ability to initiate, manage and complete new
projects with minimal direction and guidance, and conduct them through a
project life cycle which includes requirements analysis, design, planning,
evaluation, implementation, and formal presentations.

•                       Ability to present technical information and convey
knowledge to peers and customers.

•                       Ability to work afterhours and over weekends when
required.

•                       Able to lift 50 lbs.

•                       Understand WAN compression technologies (Steelhead
is a plus).

•                       Able to work long hours while standing in data
center environments as needed.



EXPERIENCE

•                       5+ years experience in network communications with
a strong emphasis on trouble-shooting local and wide-area connectivity at
network packet layer.

•                       Experience with Audit remediation tasks and working
with auditors.

*•                       Must be experienced with Cisco routers, switches
and firewalls.*

*•                       Must be experienced with Juniper routers, switches
and firewalls.*

*•                       Must be experienced with CheckPoint firewalls.*

*•                       Must be experienced in troubleshooting IPSec VPNs*

•                       Must possess a complete understanding of complex
network designs using high-speed technologies including MPLS, ATM and
Gigabit Ethernet.

•                       Experience in Enterprise Networking LAN/WAN field,
including experience in corporate implementation and maintenance of Network
Routing, Gateways, and basic NT and UNIX administration in a TCP/IP
environment. Knowledge of the following protocols: Ethernet, TCP/IP, SMTP,
FTP, SNMP, HTTP and HTTTPS

•                       Experienced in making good decisions when
unforeseen issues arise.





EDUCATION

•                       Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a
related field.

•                       Should have CCNA or better.

-  Technical resources that have experience in user
management/authentication in a mixed *windows/linux *environment:

o We basically have two authentication systems, one for Linux and one for
windows, they need to be *integrated*

o Specialists in either area would be helpful, but the integration of
windows and linux is what we really need to solve

§ We have linux specialists, we are lacking in windows specialists – but we
could use both

o Scripting experience in each environment, *bash, perl, python, windows
powershell*

-  Technical resources with knowledge on Role Based Access Control in a
mixed windows/linux environment

o Would help to not only plan and organize the security related activities,
but also interpret security requirements and assist in remediation plans
