Hello Partners, *Disaster Recovery Solution Architect *
Location – Candidates can sit in Atlanta, GA, Minneapolis, MN 6-12 Months Contract Disaster Recovery Program to mitigate the risk of a disastrous situation with our Data Centers that would cause them to be nonfunctional for an extended period of time. Between loss of booked revenue (through refunds and OA rebookings), loss of new revenue, damage to the Delta brand, fines, and various intangibles, a disaster would likely cost Delta more than $293 million per “average” da significantly more if the disaster occurs during a peak travel time. The business consensus is any outage of more than 2 hours translates into 1 day of financial impact. Initial projects covered mainframe systems, including Deltamatic, OSS, and Delta MVS. Additionally, the “Wave 1” DR project for non-mainframe systems covered 13 “Compliance-Critical” systems – those systems required to legally operate the airline. These represent a start, but those systems only cover a small fraction of all of the Delta systems required to resume operations, and collect additional revenue, after a disaster. Additionally Wave 1.5 is currently underway that will cover Core IT systems. The strategic approach for addressing this need breaks the overall Disaster Recovery Program into 5 overall Waves. Wave 1 (Compliance Critical) and Wave 1.5 (Initial Core Applications) are currently underway. Additional future waves are outlined below. Funding for this Program will be gated to accommodate completion of all of these Waves. The number of overall Business systems are from a point in time, and will change. · Implement a virtual DR environment architected to be easily expandable to accommodate future DR Waves that are capable of handling a peak production load. This environment must be architected in a fashion to enable DR end to end Dress Rehearsal testing multiple times a year. · Implement all remaining Core applications. · Implement high priority Wave 2 applications that standardly fit into the virtualized DR environment · Analyze needs for infrastructure upgrades to support effective operations during a Disaster event and implement as budget allows, initiate additional projects, or schedule for future DR Waves. · Investigate additional virtualization technologies/options to enhance the DR virtualization environment to accommodate future DR Waves · Determine the strategy for DR coverage of applications that will not technically work in the visualized DR environment. · Implement remaining redundant external data feeds. · Analyze needs for any Sterling Forest DR infrastructure enhancements required to support DR Dress Rehearsal end to end testing in coordination with the virtualized DR environments in ATL and MSP, and implement as budget allows, initiate additional projects, or schedule for future DR Waves. · Expand Data replication, at a minimum, to maintain the resiliency of critical real-time data for Wave 2 applications. Additional data may be included if synergies are found with future DR wave systems’ data. · Analyze needs for DR avoidance to avoid the need to duplicate older technologies in the DR Virtual environment and implement as budget allows, initiate additional projects, or schedule for future DR Waves. · Define DR related Business processes in cooperation with the appropriate Business Groups · Define and implement the architecture, processes, and design need to support a return “home” strategy. “Home” may be a completely new data center location in the case where the original Production data center is not recoverable. · Ensure communication of the DR plan and process within the IT organization and to appropriate Business groups.
