Title: Senior RDB Database Administrator Duration: 6+ months Contract Location: Las Vegas, NV PURPOSE OF JOB: The RDB Database Administrator will be responsible for administration of both production and test/development database environments. They will need to work closely with the Application Development teams to ensure the proper technique and standards relating to database structure and usage are followed. In addition the position will be responsible for planning and coordinating the appropriate actions necessary to keep the production environments operational. REPONSIBILITIES: - Perform all aspects of database administration including but not limited to physical structure, overall architecture, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security and database analysis - Creation of documentation for the RDB environment - Coach other experienced DBA staff in supporting RDB such that they are capable of providing basic functional support for the platform within six months - Review and improve backup and recovery design for database environments. - Develop mechanism to review storage allocation, identify growth rates and project storage requirements for future growth. -Uphold enterprise policy guidelines and recommend new/improved guidelines -Partner with project teams and interact with customers to find solutions for projects and operational issues for existing and proposed databases -Provide standardization and consistency across environments -Implement and monitor database functionality to ensure stable and secure environments -Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with database server equipment (hardware and software) -Minimum of 6+ yrs of relevant experience needed -Self directed and works independently Required QUALIFICATIONS: 5+ RDB database administration experience 5+ years of experience with OpenVMS 5+ years of relational database experience 5+ years of Data Modeling (Physical/Logical) experience 5+ years of experience with COBOL (not as critical as the above skills) What are the top responsibilities for this position 1. Maintaining existing RDB production and development environments. 2. Creating documentation for the environments 3. Supporting customers and processes that access the environments 4. Providing basic training to other experienced, non-RDB DBA’s 5. Manages Batch schedule & operations 6. RDB Database Administrator Requisite technical skills are paramount. Experience is more important than education. There is a five person DBA team that this contractor would be a part of.
