RE: Move SQL Server Tables to Oracle

2003-09-18 Thread David . Schmoldt
Look into Oracle's Migration Workbench utility. It's a free download from OTN. It can move tables, table data, indexes, constraints, etc. Also converts data types if needed. I've used it to move Acess databases to Oracle and it works pretty well. I believe they have a SQL Server module

We're one of the many companies running the soon-to-be-desupported Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server. In other words, we're being forced to go through a major change; either upgrading to the latest and greatest Microsoft Exchange version, or looking at other options such as OCS. Both are pretty

I think a lot of IT people abused the situation during the boom days. Company loyalty meant nothing ... we'll go wherever the biggest paychecks are. Don't stay anywhere too long. that's for losers. Change jobs if we felt the least bit abused and unappreciated. That'll teach them to screw with

I'm a dedicated TOAD user, so would steer you in that direction. We used SQL Navigator years ago, before we moved to TOAD. SQL Navigator is not a bad product; and I haven't kept up on the new releases. I'm sure it's grown a lot since I last used it. But overall, I just prefer TOAD's user

We do not want developers to learn or secrets. That might give them an idea that we're mere mortals. Yeah, I've learned from reading this list that not all DBAs are the super-smart gods they set themselves up to be. Some are actually not too bright, based on things I've seen here. The

All the certification proves is that you can take a standardized multiple choice test. It tells NOTHING about the intelligence or ability to think and reason of the certificate holder. I'm fairly sure my hands-on experience with Oracle is what has really gotten me jobs. None of my bosses
