people would buy it and, therefore, Digital could never
achieve economies of scale.

Tru64 = 5.0 being desupported for new releases of 9i is OK.
We are upgrading our Tru64 installations from 4.0F to 5.1/5.1A
along with the database upgrades to 9iRelease2.
But Tru64 on Alpha, as such, will continue for some more years.

OPTIMIZER_MODE be set to RULE.
Apps R11 was

Has anyone changed the OPTIMIZER_MODE

Unfortunately, I, and all of us, have seen the
Pentium

The general opinion of Pentium/P4 is in the
context
of MS operating systems. And these don't
perform

2) We have a few reasons
The 8.1.7.2.0 Patchset for Tru64 was withdrawn
and replaced by the 8.1.7.2.1 Patchset.
You would be applying the patchset on top of an
8.1.7.0.0 or 8.1.7.1.0 or 8.1.7.1.0B installation.
8.1.7 is certified on Tru64 5.1

Actually, I don't have to spend too much time
with Support for RDBMS issues. It is the
new-fangled technologies -- iAS, Portal, iFS,

The patchsets _are_ cumulative. You can
go direct from 8.1.7.0 to 8.1.7.3 or to 8.1.7.4
[we normally don't go to the latest patchset level
but wait a few weeks or a couple of months to
see that no major issues are reported with the
latest patchsetlevel].

The bane of trying to keep up with technology.
But why OpenVMS and not Tru64, then.
We have a large number of Tru64 Oracle Databases
(we do have OpenVMSs for Promis databases
used in manufacturing, I believe).

WITHOUT SHUT DOWN (sic) THE DATABASE below 9i.
Please don't use All-Caps. I remember the first time I used

berated.
