Note that if you got read only tablespaces, then it's ok to see more than
one distinct change#'s, but for read write's it should be the same.

Title: redo log maintenance
Hi!
You won't be affecting any current redolog
negatively, you simply get an error, but the normal work continues as
usual...

Hi!
Hm, what happened to insert hints.. such APPEND,
PARALLEL, NOLOGGING etc..?
I would avoid this "dbasupport" site, it has
written *a lot* of crap before.
Check this for example (Tom Kyte's
comments on an dbasupport article :)
http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:34570201095516569
h the Partitioning option
JServer Release 8.1.7.1.0 - Production
bash-2.03$ uname -a
SunOS blade.nt 5.8 Generic_108528-09 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-100
bash-2.03$
By the way, additional processes such are CKPT and SMON will open the file
on their time.
Happy experimenting! :)

Hi!
Not entirely the truth. In huge reporting/OLAP
environments you just can't have that much memory that all sorts are running
entirely in memory. What you should look out for are multipass sorts, the ones
which require reading and writing the same to disk multiple times. So keep the

Hi!
At the least the wording is incorrect, a user who
*connects* to instance, doesn't allocate any sort memory unless there is a need
for sort. And if there's need for 100k, only that much will be allocated. And
when the sort is over (and rows returned), the sort memory is

Hi!
If you are new to Oracle, it might be easier to use
DBA studio (which usually comes with Oracle) or other GUI tool such is Toad (http://www.toadsoft.com/).
But if you want to learn how things really work,
then open up sqlplus and start experimenting with data dictionary
