Well, it's easy. You're doing shutdown immediate during the procedure

I have an unexpected problem with this error. It

Go ahead and issue Mladen's command and restart the database. It's the only way you can bring it down if you can't connect

Try it without the xargs kill -9 to verify it's choosing what you need

with ps, it looks for the user by name mentioned. In this case, there would not
be any user by name oracleSID (most likely). All the oracle processes

the other errors. Most of the errors (if not
all ORA errors other than 3113 and 1041 I think)
are generated from rdbms kernel where as 3113 is
generated from the client side,
