Actually, I think they are following a logical progression of english
vowels, i.e.,
A would indicate a pre-beta release -
I believe Y has always been a vowel, but not like a true vowel, some sort of
xtra vowel? I remember this because of my silly last name and all of the
Y's it has in it.
