If this is a new installation...
Try in the login dialog box:
sysman
oem_temp (or the pwd you specified for OEM when you installed it, if it
prompted you to change the default)
[put the fqdn of your OMS Host here]

When you say "start the enterprise manager console and try to login as sys"
do you mean that the EM console login box that prompts for username, pwd and
management server you enter sys as the user?
If so, you need to enter an EM username & password rather than a DB username /
password.
Also, in
Martin,
I am wondering if the OMS is running at all...
oemctl status oms on UNIX or check the services applet if you are in
Windows.

I installed Jdeveloper 9.x on oracle 9.0.1.3 and did not have a problem
with OEM or SQL worksheet. I believe, you need to install it in a
separate directory. Also it does not give you any startup Icon or put
the Jdeveloper in Start and program menu, so you need to start from the
directory.

If it is NT/2000 platform, Oracle installer normally screws up the
registry entries, for example TNS_ADMIN in registry etc.
Some product also screws up "DLL" ( specially microsoft DLL) files , if
installed in the same "oracle Home" ( overwrite good DLLs with new but
incompatible DLL) .

Thanx to all,
The problem was solved, I downloaded EM Error Messages manual and
checked on it. The detailed mentioned the service, when I checked it was set to
manual startup. After starting it everything was fine again.

John,
I agree that some tools aren't good on the server.
OEM doesn't do any harm when its not in use.
Its nice to have around during maintenance periods - when you don't care
that all of those power units are going to jre.exe.
The thing that I like least about terminal services is that the serv
Thanks Paul for your comment. I daresay terminal server will also allow
remote utilization of server resources - but these are not good solutions -
IMO it is preferable to keep some tools away from the server environment.

John,
Not that I would want Java (jre.exe) consuming resources on the Oracle
Server
(need a spare 1000 power units + 256 MB ram just to run OEM?)
but you could use VNC to get you into the server room without leaving your
seat.
I have 3 servers up on my desktop right now - all running batch jobs
As a last resort I tried installing EM on a server, instead of on my Windows
2000 Professional workstation - yep, it is installing on the server!
So you have to be locked away with the servers to manage them? You cannot
manage them from a workstation?
Strange approach...
Cheers,
