 *Job Description:*

Sr. SQL Server DBA

Description: The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the
design, installation, monitoring, and performance tuning  production,
test/development, and QA database environments while ensuring high levels
of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing,
implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the
integrity and availability of SQL databases and their accompanying
software. The DBA will design and implement redundant systems, policies and
procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective
protection and integrity of data assets, and will remain current with the
latest technologies and industry/business trends

Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing and
production usage

• Performs the capacity planning required to create and maintain the
databases.

• Performs ongoing tuning of database instances.

• Plans and implements backup and recovery of all SQL databases

• Controls migrations of programs, database changes, reference data changes
and menu changes through the development life cycle

• Implements and enforces security for all of the SQL Databases

• Performs database re-organizations as required to assist performance and
ensure maximum uptime of the database

• Puts standards in place to ensure that all application design and code is
produced with proper integrity, security and performance. The DBA will
perform reviews on the design and code frequently to ensure the site
standards are being adhered to

• Evaluates releases of SQL and its tools, and third party products to
ensure that the site is running the products that are most appropriate.
Planning is also performed by the DBA, along with the application
developers and System administrators, to ensure that any new product usage
or release upgrade takes place with minimal impact

• Provides technical support to application development teams.

• Enforces and maintains database constraints to ensure integrity of the
database

• Administers all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes,
views, sequences, packages and procedures

• Assists with impact analysis of any changes made to the database objects

• Troubleshoots problems regarding the databases, applications and
development tools

• Create new database users as required

• Manage sharing of resources amongst applications

• The DBA has ultimate responsibility for the physical database design

 Experience:

 • BS in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related technical
field, or equivalent work experience.

• Have 8+ years’ experience in SQL Administration in 2008 and 2012
including backup/recovery scenarios, security management, and
replication/log shipping techniques.

• Experience in supporting data base availability groups preferably in SQL
2012.

• Experience in supporting SQL in a Windows Clustered environment.

• Certification and ongoing training on at least one DBMS, including
detailed knowledge of the database and DBMS software, and some programming
skills

• Track record in performance optimization and high availability/disaster
recovery.

• An understanding of business processes and the database they access, and
the flow of information between processes.

• Proven ability to discuss database and data management techniques and
capabilities with both technical and business audiences.

• Knowledge of Windows Server administration, preferably in a Windows 2008
or 2012 environment.

• Strong problem solving skills and exploiting query execution plans to
help with performance tuning.
