[Oralux] speech dispatcher on boot?

2007-08-15 Thread J. T. Laurie
Why is it that when I load the oralux cd and start the computer all I get is a
beep, the boot prompt and then a screen full of my machine's specifications and
it always hangs when booting/loading speech dispatcher? Is there a workaround
for this?t
hanks in advance.

Hello,

If the process hangs during hardware detection, you could try at boot
time (the first beep):
knoppix noapic acpi=off

As you may know, Oralux is no more developed.
If you meet issues with 0.7 alpha it might be worth to try a more recent
distro with speech feedback.

For info, the expected behaviour in 0.7 alpha when everything works is:

* a first beep which informs the user that the boot prompt is displayed.
* after 30 seconds, the linux kernel and then the knoppix autodetection
of hardware starts (so your machine specifications on screen)
* and finally a beep followed by a pre-recorded message.
after this second beep, the user can selects his speech system: speech
dispatcher in English or other solutions (Multispeech, ...).

Best wishes,

Gilles

unfortunately that didn't work. it still gets stuck loading speech
dispatcher. I'll try a brand new disk and see what happens. I'll keep you
guys posted.
