This post for announcing the first public release of Voxin. Voxin includes the IBM Viavoice TTS and several pre-compiled LGPL speech drivers. The user has to accept a license: for example, Viavoice must be used with the software components expected by Voxin, on the user's computer and for her own use. Oralux.org, a not-for-profit association, sells Voxin online at low cost (no financial benefit). Voxin 0.14 is compliant with Ubuntu Feisty and Debian Etch. It provides LGPL binaries and scripts. Each Voxin package includes one language. For using several languages, several packages will be purchased. The following tests have been completed using Voxin 0.14 in French under a fresh Debian or Ubuntu install: Under Debian Etch * Emacspeak: outloud + oss works * Speech-Dispatcher: spd-say works using viavoice Under Ubuntu Feisty: * Emacspeak: outloud + oss works * Speech-Dispatcher: spd-say works using viavoice * Gnome-speech: Orca can uses viavoice. Voxin includes also a pyibmtts binary for LSR under Ubuntu Feisty.
