Concerning small Orchid Societies being unable
to afford good speakers,
Dan talks about a
group of local orchid societies sharing "speaker
expenses" so they can afford good speakers and stimulate interest.
Dan:
> is for the local socities to "synchronize", i.e., co-ordinate
monthly
>meeting schedules.
Good point. It is done already in several
places. I know from personal experience.
Last year I was guest speaker, for one
week in each of several locations
across the USA and
Canada. During a single week I would present my
lectures to 3, 4 or 5
Orchid Societies, who had their
meetings on different
days of, for example, the first week
of every month.
These societies would cover and share my
'travel and accommodation' expenses.
Guest speakers can help too!!! When Orchid
Societies are small, and/or travel
expenses are high,
and the lecture is important for them to
hear, waive the speakers fee!!
