Received this from DNS.WATCH. Patrick Becker requested that I forward it to the list as it doesn't allow messages from non-members.

As stated on the website, a majority of users was unable to access DNS.WATCH resolvers on 04.02.2017. When we noticed the problem, we began immediately with fixing the problem. Unfortunately this happened on a Sunday where we had limited resources available - fixing the problem was a priority over communicating that there is a problem. We immediately published the statement on the website as soon as the issue was resolved. >> The GMail web client "warns" that dns.watch is an "untrusted" site. T I assume they are operating a whitelist, meaning any page not being whitelisted will result in a warning as being "untrusted". Feel free to investigate, from our side no censorship regarding our resolver is known. That being said, we are sorry that this outage affected many people. It was our first outage since we started providing the service and you can rest assured that we will do everything to prevent the resolvers from going offline. If you got any questions, feel free to ping me via mail! -- Sincerely, Patrick Becker Business Development IAMONSYS GmbH Jollystr. 5 81545 Munich Germany Tel. 089 21546670-10 Fax. 089 21546671 Mail: p.bec...@iamonsys.com Web: https://iamonsys.com/ Geschäftsführer: Malte Noll Registergericht: München HRB 219999 EU VAT Nummer.: DE282838796 ________________________________ From: "John Connett" <j...@skylon.demon.co.uk> To: "Open Rights Group open discussion list" <org-discuss@lists.openrightsgroup.org> Cc: dnswa...@iamonsys.com Sent: Tuesday, February 6, 2018 1:40:13 PM Subject: Re: [ORG-discuss] DNS.WATCH disappears DNS.WATCH is back and there is a one line comment on their website: "04.02.2017 - Some users affected: Some users were unable to reach both of the DNS resolvers. This issue should now be resolved.". I'm taking it on trust that their DNS resolvers are "Fast, Free, Uncensored". This was the first time I have noticed a loss of service from them. They have proved much better than my ISP's (Virgin Media) DNS resolvers that default to the (optional?) Virgin Media error service on a miss and block some sites. I am only using unencrypted DNS requests. I haven't yet investigated DNS over TLS (RFC 7858). Much of my traffic is over a VPN so DNS requests via that route are already encrypted. Any pointers to good practice on the choice and use of DNS resolvers would be of interest. -- John Connett <j...@skylon.demon.co.uk> ________________________________ From: org-discuss <org-discuss-boun...@lists.openrightsgroup.org> on behalf of Philip Hudson <phil.hud...@iname.com> Sent: 05 February 2018 08:48 To: Open Rights Group open discussion list Subject: Re: [ORG-discuss] DNS.WATCH disappears The GMail web client "warns" that dns.watch is an "untrusted" site. Is this straightforward censorship/repression on Google's part, or might there be some substance to it? There's no link from GMail's warning to any kind of explanation for the reasons (if any) for the warning. I don't recall ever receiving this warning before, for any link. The warning itself looks suspicious to me.
