I'm coming in late to this discussion with a thought from the Form the
Ocean dance weekend in 2019. They held a community discussion at that
weekend structured around the idea of starting at "Point D." As in, with
big conversations in our communities, we so often churn round and round on
points A,
sk, as we want this to be a safe place, even if the archives

Hi all,
I'm going to explore this intersection of gender-free role terms +
welcoming new dancers + growing community a little bit. [And by "a little
bit" I actually mean a "a long soapbox about important stuff," so hang on
for the ride.]
I'm a genderqueer / gender nonconforming person, and a
Montpelier, VT, uses Larks and Robins. Our website pretty clearly says
"gender-free role terms," but I suppose we could be specific about *which*
terms we use!
Thanks,
Dana

Thank you, everyone, for a thoughtful, kind, and nuanced conversation about
COVID, which is not a given when you dive into this subject. I really
appreciate it.
I have a friendly request to make: I'd love for there to be plenty of space
for organizers who have not yet shared their thoughts to
Montpelier is masks required but vax NOT required. We've had no documented
spread. (A single case or two after one dance, but no more.) We let callers
choose whether or not to be unmasked, and we know some musicians will need
to be unmasked (ie wind players). We don't require testing for unmasked
Hi Stan and other folks,
Montpelier, VT, organizer here. We are in the process of transitioning to
larks & ravens terms, and we'll be 100% larks & ravens by January 2020.
This was a consensus decision made by the organizing committee in alignment
with a LOT of feedback from the community.
