I was watching Globe Trekker's show on WWII in the Pacific http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMjExu_e49A which originally aired Feb 18, 2013. Toward the end, when visiting Saipan, they visited a site where Japanese soldiers had been located. It is now a memorial site where prayer sticks and hanging 1000 cranes are seen.
