For Christmas, I was given a set of Chop-Chop flexible cutting mats for the
kitchen (
https://www.amazon.com/Chop-Original-Flexible-Cutting-mats/dp/B009L78BFE).
I think I still prefer a a cutting board for cooking preparation, but I'm
finding the mats very useful as smooth flat surfaces to fold on.

The older I get, the more contrast my eyes need for reading and
paperfolding, and the choice of colors in the mats helps with that. The
mats will also be handy for displaying origami on.

At 11.5" x 15" the mats are slightly too big to fit on my bread-board
shelf, but they do slide neatly under my placemat at the table where I do
much of my folding.

I haven't tried cutting paper with an Exacto knife on them yet.

They are easy to wash by hand or in dishwasher although fitting them into
the dishwasher is a bit tricky.
