Take a look at The Carpenter's Gift, by David Rubel, illustrations by Jim La Marche (2011). The book tells a lovely story about the first Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, 80 years ago.
For diagrams and a reproduction of the 12/24/1931 New York Times front page to fold it with: http://www.randomhouse.biz/booksellers/childrens/files/2012/08/StarPattern-Henrys-Origami-Star4.pdf Bonus--pattern for a tin-can star: http://www.randomhouse.biz/booksellers/childrens/files/2012/08/STARpattern.pdf By the way, although the book makes a point about homelessness then and now (and gives a plug to Habitat for Humanity http://www.habitat.org/lc/stories_multimedia/thecarpentersgift/activities.aspx), you'd have to read the 1931 NY Times page very closely to realize that the Great Depression was in full swing that Christmas eve.
