Very tempting to try to re-construct a version from the pictures.

Thanks for posting about this. I have seen photos of several similar items
before ... which are, of course, reminiscent of Zhen Xian Bao ... but I hadn't
seen them connected to omocha-e before.

Incidentally, if you are interested in the various types of ukiyo-e, especially
those relevant to children, there is a great analysis, and many examples at
https://www.kumon-ukiyoe.jp/en/.

The unfolded object in the front right corner looks like an open, not
unfolded, Menko envelope.

[Origami] history of origami -- "An intriguing origami-like object made for play and storing small items" Meiji period?

I just saw this in a new Hozuki Books catalogue announcement. Excellent
photos of item 10, the origami-like object, in several stages of unfolding.
Very tempting to try to re-construct a version from the pictures.

The whole catalogue is full of fascinating, beautiful things. Enjoy!

folding object with small opening pockets or compartments, constructed from
a colour woodblock-printed omocha-e toy print. Genjikō (Genji Incense)
patterns appear on the inner panels of the object and on the eri collar of
the elegant woman adorning the front panel. An intriguing origami-like
object made for play and storing small items. One folding object, complete.
Wrappers worn, soiled, and with a few wormholes. Minor stains, creases, and
