Hmm, I am unsure about that.
Reading msdn, MemoryBarrier appears to be present on Vista and newer.
But given that I do not use vista and it appears to be dependent on the 
compiler  and sdk version, I am a little unsure under which define we should 
put that.
Somebody with more win32 experience than me:
Which preprocessor variable can I check here to make sure that the usage of 
that MemoryBarrier function/macro is guaranteed to be present?

They were.
Change it in the cmake configuration if you need.
