01. Two killed in 'crossfire' Mob lynches 2 outlaws

An outlaw leader and a highwayman were killed in 'crossfire' with
police yesterday in Khulna and Naogaon.

Angry mobs also killed two outlaws in Bagerhat the same day.

Dipankar Sarker, 35, a listed criminal and a top leader of outlawed
New Biplobi Communist Party (NBCP) was killed in an encounter with
police early yesterday at Wapda sluice gate area of Rangpur union
under Dumuria upazila of Khulna district.

He was arrested from Shalna Bazar under the same upazila that night.

Police seized a foreign-made gun, two live cartridges and six used
shells of bullets left there by Dipankar's accomplices who tried to
snatch him during the encounter.

According to police, Dipankar was one of the most wanted criminals in
the South-Western region. He was accused in four criminal cases
including one of murder and two of kidnaps recorded with the Dumuria
Police Station.

Dipankar, who left the country to evade arrest in the face of ongoing
joint operations by the Rapid action Battalion (Rab) and police, came
back from India last month to regroup armed cadres of NBCP, Police
said.

In another incident, Nata Kabir, 32, an armed cadre of PBCP
(Janajuddho) was lynched by an angry mob at 11:00pm on Tuesday at
Tootpara Mahirkhal area under Khulna Police Station. Police seized
some posters and leaflets from his possession.

Nata Kabir was wanted in three murder, one police assault, one
extortion and one arms act cases recorded with the Khulna Police
Station, Assistant Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Anisur
Rahman said.

Angry mob lynched another PBCP (Janajuddho) outlaw Russel Shaikh, 32,
early Tuesday at Putia Wapda embankment area under Fakirhat upazila
of Bagerhat district.

Police seized two hand bombs and leaflets of four extremist
organisations from his possession.

Police said Russel Shaikh alias Bomaru Russel was a listed criminal
and a member of the bomb squad of PBCP (Janajuddho) faction.

Our Rajshahi correspondent adds: A top regional highwaymen's leader
was killed in 'crossfire' between his aides and police at Taratbari
area in Sadar upazila of Naogaon district early yesterday.

On Tuesday noon, detective branch of police arrested Jamir Uddin, 42,
who led many robberies on roads in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Bogra,
Joypurhat and Natore regions, police said.

Following his statement, police took Jamir to an abandoned house near
Taratbari Primary School for retrieving arms and nab his associates.

As police reached the spot, Jamir's cohorts opened fire, triggering a
shootout that lasted for 10 minutes.

Trying to flee away, Jamir was bullet-hit and fell to the ground,
police said.

He was rushed to the Sadar hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered a shutter gun, a pipe gun, three bullets, four
machetes, two axes and two knives from the spot.

Jamir was an absconding accused in seven cases of robbery and
charge-sheeted in four cases, police said.

02. Two more crime suspects killed in ‘crossfire’

Two suspected criminals, including an underground party leader, were
killed in the ‘crossfire’ of their associates and the police in
Khulna and Naogaon early Wednesday.

The deceased are identified as Dibakar alias Dipankar Sarkar, 35, of
village Rangpur at Dumuria upazila in Khulna, and Jamiruddin alias
Jamir, of village Chawktataru at sadar upazila in Naogaon.

Informed of a meeting of an underground party, the police in Khulna
launched an operation at village Rangpur.

When they reached an enclosure in the area at about 2:00am, the
criminals opened fire on the police.

The policemen fired back. After the encounter, they found Dibakar
lying wounded. His associates managed to get away.

The police took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors
declared him dead.

The police recovered a foreign-made gun and two cartridges from the
place.

Dibakar was a suspected underground party leader and also second to
the New Biplabi Communist Party leader, Shailen. He was wanted in
four cases, including a murder, the police claimed.

The police also claimed that Dibakar had been trying to reunite the
New Biplabi gang after the recent police drive against crimes.

In Naogaon, the police arrested the alleged bandit leader Jamiruddin
alias Jamir at Hajirbagan at sadar upazila Tuesday afternoon.

Based on his statement, the police, along with Jamir, went to an
abandoned house near a primary school at Taratbari at about 3:00am
Wednesday to arrest his associates.

As they reached the place, Jamir’s associates opened fire, forcing
the law enforcers to fire back.

‘Jamir was caught in the crossfire as he tried to get away and died
on the spot,’ the police claimed.

A pipe gun, a shutter gun, three bullets and eight sharp weapons were
recovered from the place.

The police claimed that Jamir had created a reign of terror in
Naogaon, Jaipurhat and Rajshahi.

An accused in four cases of robbery, he had been absconding, the
police said.
