The Implications of Zarqawi's Death
---------------------- The leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musa'ab al-Zarqawi, was killed on the evening of June 7, 2006 in a U.S. air strike in Baquba, Iraq. Five others died in the air strike-Zarqawi's spiritual adviser, Sheikh Abd-Al-Rahman, one woman, one child and two other men.1 Citing Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, al-Jazeera reported "Al-Zarqawi is eliminated." U.S. ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, who spoke with the prime minister during his announcement of Zarqawi's death, said: "The death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is a huge success for Iraq and the international war on terror."
