Terror trial hears from undercover officer Updated 15.13 Tue Oct 30 2007 An undercover police officer has described the chilling gun gestures made by an alleged terrorist plotter as he spoke to his followers. The agent infiltrated the gang and watched how preacher Mohammed Hamid, 50, and others behaved as they discussed Islam and politics. The conversations at Hamid's east London home were recorded by a hidden bug planted by MI5. The prosecution claim Hamid used the phrases "football training" and "Hackney Marshes" as euphemisms for foreign terrorist training The officer, known only as Dawood, told Woolwich Crown Court that Hamid repeatedly gestured as if holding a gun while speaking. The prosecution claim Hamid used the phrases "football training" and "Hackney Marshes" as euphemisms for foreign terrorist training. Duncan Penny QC, prosecuting, asked Dawood: "In reality did you understand him to be referring to football training?" Dawood replied: "No. He was not referring to football training. He was referring to firing a gun." Earlier, Mr Penny asked Dawood what he understood when Hamid said "people wanted to know about things and everybody wanted to do things." Dawood said: "When he was talking about the 'things' he was doing the gun motion with his hand once again. "When he was referring to people - 'you know how people might be' - he was pointing at us." Five men are on trial accused of various roles in a plot to stage terrorist training camps in the UK. They deny the offences. The prosecution claim Hamid was the ringleader and encouraged others to commit murder and undertake jihad during meetings at his home. The south east London court has heard hours of often rambling and incoherent conversations held during the regular Friday meetings. One meeting took place on June 16 last year, several weeks after some members of the group went camping in the New Forest, in Hampshire. Hamid boasted to the others that he had been "arranging many things" for between 12 and 13 years. The jury heard him describe how when people turn to Islam "everybody wants to be something, everybody wants to be mujaheed (a fighter)." He added: "But you see, the whole aspect is for you to get shahada (martyred)..." [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
