[OSList] Free QiqoChat training for online OST this week

2021-01-11 Thread Lucas Cioffi via OSList
Hello OSLIST,

If you have heard of QiqoChat but have not yet gotten a chance to use it in
your work, I'd like to teach you how to do so.

You are invited to a free 2-hour class this week. You will learn how to
create your first event on QiqoChat. (Please note that this is separate
from the other great discussion thread happening now on the OSLIST about
sharing lessons learned from last year.)

*Please choose one of these 9 time slots this Thursday/Friday
(including three slots that work great
for Australia & Asia).*

Qiqo is a flexible (and affordable) platform that integrates Zoom and
other collaborative tools you use such as Google Docs.
You can use Qiqo to host events ranging from interactive dialogue and
workshops to large conferences.

Many facilitators have had to learn how to host their events online during
2020. There is a vibrant community of practice that is figuring this out
together. Whether you have years of experience in online events or if you
are exploring for the first time, you won't be alone.

We hope to see you there, and please share with your friends!

[OSList] Unhurried Working Experiment

2021-01-11 Thread paul levy via OSList
Hi all

Johnnie Moore (inventor of Unhurried Conversations) and I are having an
experiment in online companionable working this Friday. We'll be working at
home but we'll also have a Zoom room open so there might be some light
conversation with other homeworkers.

You can drop in, just listen, just watch, no pressure. Details below.

Zoom space will be Join Zoom Meeting

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86461138754?pwd=dEtjZDhDdGJzWUtsZHFXSkM3ZU5Mdz09

Meeting ID: 864 6113 8754

Passcode: 245038

Best wishes,

Johnnie and Paul

*Unhurried Working*

Friday January 15th, 2pm to 5pm UK time

Many of us working remotely need a little bit of companionship, without
feeling like we want to talk all the time.

This is an experiment in sharing space while getting on with our work or
household activities, where we’d like a bit of company without feeling
obliged to join in a conversation of feel, god forbid, that we’re in a
meeting.

So for this event, we’ll have an open zoom room in which you can interact
with other folks as much or as little as you like.

The basic controls will be:

I

Camera

Microphone

What it means

On

On

I’m really quite open to talking

On

Muted

I'm here but I’m not talking at the moment - or am talking to someone else

Off

On

I don’t want to be visible but I might talk

Off

Muted

I'm happy picking up the vibe of the Zoom room but I’m not taking active
part

Another choice is to have your camera pointing at you indirectly so we can
see you at work without feeling your eyes staring in our general direction.

Join us for as much of the time as you like, and come in the spirit of
experimentation.

Re: [OSList] Issues of access and privilege

2021-01-11 Thread Chris Corrigan via OSList
Judith, these are excellent observations and need to be built into the
design of every online open space event.

To these I would add issues of visual accessibility, for example if
participants are colour blind, they often have a hard time using online
whiteboard tools unless we have deliberately chosen colour blind friendly
schemes.

Issues of accessibility and privilege should be a key part of design for
anyParticipatory meeting. If working in the online space has begun to
surface these issues, that is a good thing! Even in face-to-face meetings
it is important to constantly wrestle with accessibility in all it’s forms.

Re: [OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

2021-01-11 Thread Phelim McDermott via OSList
Hi Romy et al,

Yes we at Improbable have been doing OS events using Qiqo (and a lot of amazing
support from Lucas!) We’ve done about 20 since the first lockdown from about
10-250 people. We’ll be aiming to do our annual D event at the beginning of
Feb and that will be around 500 people. The biggest and most costly challenge
is access support and navigating such thing as captioning and BSL sign language
support around break out spaces. Happy to be part of this call if I can make
the timing work.

Lots of love to you all

January 22-24, 2021 (10 am to 3 pm EST), there will certainly be
opportunities to invite sharing and co-creative learning on the topic you
mention Romy. The cost for the three days is minimal $25. The spirit of the
gathering which will include reflections from Harrison on Saturday and
Sunday morning is very much in the spirit of shared learning as we continue
to open more and more virtual space together. We will be using a
combination of Zoom, QiQo (much gratitude always to trailblazing Lucas
Cioffi) and Google doc, inspired by Flourishing Futures and OSI US. Our
hope is that it will also provide a space to discuss other ways and means
of opening space ~ simply, in the spirit of a "less is more".

Karen Davis has been hosting this gathering with Harrison for over 20
years. It's an opportunity for people new to Open Space to experience and
even practice facilitation of open space. For others more familiar, an
opportunity to deepen our practice with others, including virtual. What
I've always found most interesting are the diverse communities that we
attracted in New York, people who are passionately engaged in various
causes, in transformation and change. This year will be no different.

All are warmly welcome.

Below the invite, the important THEME that is bringing us together in these
times, and a link for all who are interested:

*OPEN SPACE TECHNOLOGY*

*“PEACE & HIGH PERFORMANCE”*

*Jan 22- 24, 2021*

*These urgent times need us everywhere, all of us, head and heart.*

*Together, we must challenge ourselves to invite broadly,*

*to engage and inspire each other to action.*

*“How do we engage 8 billion people in meaningful conversation?”*

*Explore pathways and discoveries with other global explorers.*

Please feel free to invite others!

[OSList] Issues of access and privilege

2021-01-11 Thread Judith Stemerdink-Herret via OSList
Hi everybody,

I would like to reply on James’ comment about access and privilege in an online
world. I experience and observe that there are still enough problems and
inequalities to participate for many people:

First of all access to a device (computer, smart phone). Many have smart phones
but not all have a computer to use all possibilities of interacting like
working in break-out sessions together on Google doc or virtual collaboration
tools.
Second a strong and stable bandwidth. This depends on the region/country you
live in but also on your personal budget.
Third to be able to fully connect with others you need also a camera that
everybody can see you too, which definitely adds on to the personal connection.
Forth is connected with the 3rd point because a camera allows to sneak into
“your home” and shows a lot about your personal living standard and
enables/hinders you to concentrate on the participation (e.g. if family members
are in the same room, noise from the neighbourhood/street etc.). Even offices
can be difficult surroundings if you share the same room with several
colleagues.
Fifth, to participate from home is for many people a challenge because they
have children or other family members to care for and get interrupted.

Some of the above mentioned points might be mitigated easily. For instance we
don’t have to show where we are and can choose in some video tools the
background. Some limitations like local bandwidth is less in your control.

Regarding the background of our personal video, I prefer to see the “reality”
people are seated and understand a bit better the challenges around them. I
smile if a toddler wants to be on the lap of the daddy, or a colleague appears
unknowingly on the screen, or a cat hijacks the keyboard. It gives me a feeling
that we are all humans and not only nice and neat little computer screen
windows.

How is your experience regarding access and privilege?

Kind regards from sunny Vienna,
Judith

I know we say whoever comes are the right people... but that has always come
down to issues of access and privilege, which can be somewhat mitigated by
technology, even if there's still issues of bandwidth or Internet access. It
will be interesting to see how OS unfolds in this brave new world we live in...

Dear Sylwia,

you and others in this string report how "effective it (ost) can be" in
online formats.

In which way was ost online "effective" or "differently effective" from
analog ost events?

Re: [OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

2021-01-11 Thread Sylwia Myszka-Szyszka via OSList
Hello everyone,

Happy New Year from Belgium!
I would love to take part in this conversation. I've been working mainly
with Zoom+google docs and with Qiqo chat. A year ago I couldn't imagine an
open space online, now I'm still surprised how effective it can be. Happy
to share and to explore further with you.

Best wishes,
Sylwia
