Thanks for the screen captures; they help clarify. I haven't seen these labels
become a problem even in dense urban areas. But I don't see a way to disable
them, either.

Disabling Configure map/POI & Configure map/ Point labels should work on
all maps. Note that you can keep different configuration setups for
car/bicycle/foot via the icons at the top.
