In Directions > Options > GPX route: "Pass along entire track" should be
disabled; "Calculate Osmand route for first and last route segments" should
be enabled. These options appear once you've selected a GPX to be
navigated.

Well, so much for that idea.
I think it creates an exception log file. Look at the top level of whichever
storage it's installed on.
Also, usually when it crashes, on the next launch, it should have prompt at the
bottom of the screen to send a message to the devs or dismiss Do you see
Not silly at all :-)
So, phone restarted and after some more tests, these crashes also happen with a
default calculated route (i.e. not using GPX track). Help!
I love OsmAnd but this latest version just not working for me.

Just reinstall it from Google Play - they won't require you to pay for it
again.
Or if your phone is rooted and you make backups with Titanium you can
reinstall it from there.
