Position: Data Modeler

Location: Dodgeville, WI

Duration: 6+ months

*Spoke with owner of this req-she is a VP.  They lost a resource that served
as the day to day data modeler that worked with all of the project teams.
This person would interface with the various teams to ensure consistent data
models and data management throughout the organization.  They interacted
with the various teams on a daily basis and maintained the metadata.  They
need a "hands-on" data modeler that can come in and take over this role.  We
should be looking for a data modeler that can go in, get their arms around
the current environment and support the project teams operationally.  Not
looking for someone to come in and redo everything.*



*The reason she lists VB and ASP as a nice to have is that they have an
application that was written in these languages that houses their
metadata.  Only 10-10 communication for this role as they will report to
upper management and interact with all of I.T.  Details below. *







SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT (DELIVERABLES)

   - Oversee and assist with developing data models across the organization
   to ensure adherence to sound data management principles and where possible,
   the reuse of data
   - Map the structure and organization of the relevant data for projects
   within the company
   - Interact daily with business analysts and project teams
   - Capture and maintain meta-data, creating business rules for the use of
   data
   - Define and maintain logical enterprise data model at various levels
   - Map physical data structure to enterprise data model
   - Maintain the metadata repository
   - Develop and enforce naming standards, policies and procedures for the
   creation of databases and data models
   - Perform required system maintenance
   - Utilizes industry & competitive knowledge to apply the most current and
   appropriate ideas in a forward-looking manner to support the business & also
   to anticipate new opportunities
   - Conducts vendor/technology evaluation as appropriate
   - Influences the acceptance of new technologies that drive consistency,
   efficiency & agility to the organization

TECHNICAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:

   - Experienced in data analysis, conceptual and logical data modeling,
   data integration mechanisms, Data Warehousing
   - Strong data modeling skills, including a deep understanding of
   relational and multi-dimensional database designs and the normalization
   levels of operational data stores, data warehouse, and data mart.
   - Experience with data-modeling tool such as Erwin
   - Expertise in Visual Basic and ASP desired
   - Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
   - Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and be self-directed
   - Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills - lead, collaborate,
   facilitate, and negotiate as necessary
   - Knowledge of retail/direct marketing industry a strong plus
