The difference in levels wasn't a problem when I built the circuit, since
3.3 is above +2.5 and the 3.3 circuitry is +5V safe. I did tie pin 6 to +5V,
and I think I put all the grounds together (although I don't think that's
necessary).

It looks really weird how the author connected the DS2480B, which runs
at 5V directly to the UART, which provides only 3.3V. I think this would
need some level-shifting.
