I have an Intel NUC for my media centre PC. Similar footprint to an Mac Mini, but more flexible in terms of ports/access etc.
When I last replaced my desktop, I bought an Alienware Alpha R2 (which I don’t think you can buy anymore). It was just that much bigger and more flexible (proper GPU, bigger fans), which still being compact.
