I'd like to pose another naïve question about options for moving our ancient text file based authentication system to something more modern and general purpose. Could we just use Azure Active Directory as a credentials and roles "database"? I know that AD wasn't invented just for that purpose,

Just wait until they ask for 2 years of Angular 2 experience….. which hasn’t even been out 2 months, let alone 2 years ;-) Sorry not the answer you were looking for, but given that 2 is so different from 1, you’d be struggling to find certification on v2. I haven’t look recently but this book
