There are issues with large lists, but it depends on how you want to use them
and what performance your uses expect.

Has anyone played around with the SharePoint calendars with over 2000
items in it? We have a calendar that's growing about 200 entries a
week. My question is has anyone had any issues with large calendar
lists? Also (haven't had a chance to try it yet), would the calendar
still
