Hi Olaf, you got me on the right track... ;-) It wasn't multimedia:libs but KDE Playground that had a 3.0-62.1 version of libav{codec|filter|format}57, libavresample3 and libavutil55 while the Packman version is 3.0-61.2, so when the ffmpeg package was updated to 3.0, YaST apparently

Hi Marguerite and Olaf, I attached the output of ffmpeg -codecs as a plain text file. For comparision, I installed the ffmpeg-2.8 package that I just noticed and attached this ones codec list as well. It seems that in the 3.0 version, H.264 can be decoded, but not encoded. Using the ffmpeg-2.8
