Hi Olaf,
you got me on the right track... ;-)
It wasn't multimedia:libs but KDE Playground that had a 3.0-62.1 version of
libav{codec|filter|format}57, libavresample3 and libavutil55 while the Packman
version is 3.0-61.2, so when the ffmpeg package was updated to 3.0, YaST

I noticed the same problem on my 13.2 system.
In my case the libav* packages were automatically installed from KDE:Extra

[ 49s] + ffmpeg -codecs
[ 49s] + grep -E '(mp3|264)'
[ 49s] DEV.LS h264 H.264 / AVC / MPEG-4 AVC / MPEG-4

This seems to be specific to 13.2, my TW shows this:
DEV.LS h264 H.264 / AVC / MPEG-4 AVC / MPEG-4 part 10
(decoders: h264 h264_vdpau ) (encoders: libx264
Hi Marguerite and Olaf,
I attached the output of ffmpeg -codecs as a plain text file.
For comparision, I installed the ffmpeg-2.8 package that I just noticed and
attached this ones codec list as well.
It seems that in the 3.0 version, H.264 can be decoded, but not encoded.
Using the ffmpeg-2.8

Hi all,
I'm running the version 3.0-61.2 of ffmpeg on openSUSE 13.2 and I just noticed
that this version is lacking support for codecs like H.264 or MP3.
When I last used ffmpeg two weeks ago, it did still work. I haven't removed
any libraries and the commands I use for transcoding videos are
