Gary! It's called an RIAA Preamp, where RIAA stands for Recording
Industry Association of America. I think you can get them for $50 or so.
If you have an old receiver around you could plug the turntable into it's
phono input then run one of the receiver's line level outputs into your
sound

you could do that with a rezistered cable. Lots of people have to do that.

I think most of the newer turntables have preamps built
in to
them because the new stereo receivers don't have the phono jacks in
them. I never bought one but I was looking for one 2 or 3 years ago
and saw that they had their own preamps.
