VARIABLE BIT RATES WITH LAME, SOME NOTES

2004-09-01 Thread Dane Trethowan

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Greetings!

Sorry! I'm all over the place with e-mail at the moment.

Some time ago, someone on list asked about VBR quality with LAME, they said
that they were getting mixed results with a quality figure of 9.

This will indeed be the case as (with the VBR encoding) 9 is the worst
quality you can use. The quality for VBR encoding is slightly different to
that of Constant bit rate encoding, the quality setting for VBR
encoding affects both the encoded audio nad the size of the file thus the
best quality figure is probably about 5, where you get maximum quality and
maximum compression.

LAME boasts 2 VBR methods, OLD and NEW, NEW, is very fast but doesn't
produce as good a results as does OLD, which is considerably
slower. Naturally! this situation will change as time goes on.

Downloading from RealNetworks.

2004-09-01 Thread Geoff Waaler
Greetings,

When ever I attempt to download from real.com I receive a message
stating: your security settings do not allow this file to be
downloaded..

Earlier I spyproofed my pc and acordingly disabled things like scripts
and activex controls. I have since gone back to system defaults and
deleted all cookies and files in MSIE 6. I have Windows XP service
pack 2 and JFW 5.1 though this was going on before I installed SP2.
The FAQs at real.com are not helpful.

Perhaps a related problem is that the cookie is apparently not taking
for NFL field pass as I reported earlier. When ever I click on a feed
I am presented with the FieldPass signup page and I fill in my sign-on
info yet never get past this page. Do i need to reformat my disk
before the NFL season starts, or has someone out there ran into a
similar situation?

Thanks and best regards.
Geoff

I try again.

2004-09-01 Thread Anders Holmberg
HellO!
I am using the real alternative player version 1.23.
My question is if its that good as evrybody says?
Its very blind friendly, i can agree with that but it seems that there seem
to be alot of irritating bugs or whatever it is.
I have alot of problems using the media player clasic (which is the same as
thye real alternative player.)
For example:
I am listening to a radio station and then i would like to change to
another.
So i klick to listen to the other station and then there seem to be an error
with the program.
I don't know this message in the englis version of windows 2000 but in my
swedish version the message appears as follows:
If i translat it it will bi like:
Program error:
Mplayer.exe has generated an error and is beeing shut down by windows.
You mus restart the program.
Why do this happen evry time?
I am so frustrated and angry about this stupid error message.
I have been trying to re installing the program but it doesn't help.
What can be wrong?
PLeas help me!
I beg!
THanks in advance.
/Anders.

Re: Downloading from RealNetworks.

2004-09-01 Thread Richard K. Goepfert
Hi,

I had a similar problem and contacted customer service at Real. They said
that my security settings had to be in a mode to allow cookies from Real.
Some of the spyware blockers also affect cookies the same way they do ads
and popups. You might want to call customer service there and discuss the
problem with them.

When you go to save them tab over to attributes and make the changes there.
You want to move them down to 16 or 24 kb.
