in that recorder source setting, tab to the change button. Make sure
microphone is highlighted, then choose an appropriate quality level.
 Total
Recorder's help is confusing here, but my experience showed me to look for
 a
program running at 8 kHz. There's more than one 8 kHz choice. You'll
notice one list with mostly word names. Skip that and tab to the next
 list.
At each item in this second list you'll need to tab back and forth for the
 numbers.

Once you've made your choice, Make sure you press OK there and then tab
through for the box where you'll assign your new setting a name. I gave
 my
first experiment the name mike1, then mike2. Then, though it may not be
intuitive, tab again to OK. Pressing enter on your chosen name won't save
 either it or your setting.

You would also be advised to follow the help instructions under quality,
the word you should start typing in once you open help and press alt-i for
index. I believe you tab once, possibly twice, after typing that word for
the topics list. The quality of sound help file recommends you download a
Lame file not included in the TR package. I had to find that file by
 doing
a Google search. It enables MP3 recording, which expands your TR recorder
 source choices.

Sorry, I'm making this sound complicated. I did it myself the other day
 and
it took hours to figure it all out. I hope I've made these suggestions
 clear enough.

 Hi,listers.
I'm using Total RecorderPro4401 and I am unable to record through
microphone. I activated Recording Source and Parameter button and
 checked
Sound-board radio-button but still can not record via microphone,
 although
microphone is just working fine in Window's Sound Recorder.

 Any suggestions, please?

 Thanks!

Nero Suite.

2006-04-08 Thread Carliss
Hello Listers,
I just recieved Nero OEM suite,I would like to know, does it work with
Jaws.20? Also, is it user friendly? I heard that nero records better than
easy CD creater but is more difficult to use, it would be nice if who ever
has had this program, would give a little information about it and how it
works I really would appreciate that!
The Nero suite came with the A Open DVD drive that I purchased yesterday. I
never heard of A Open before, but it seems to be a good Dvd drive. If
there's any information abouth this drive out there, I would appreciate that
as well, I can return it if necissary.
Thanks to all.
Carliss
The A Open DVD drive, plays every thing and I mean, every thing. Plus,
minus, ram, and even the new double DVD CDs

Scanner Help

2006-04-08 Thread djc
I just purchased a new Police scanner which is the pro-97 from Radioshack.
It's a hand held unit and it is amazing how clear it is but it is rather
complicated for a blind person to use even though one can buy an interface
kit for use with the computer. I'm asking here because I'm wondering if
anyone on this list has had experience with this radio or knows the easiest
way for me to program it for our Molorola Type II Smartnet system. I'd be
also interested to know if anyone has used the interface kit and whether
it's speech friendly. I read the manual for this radio but it's real
complicated. The radio unfortunately is not blind friendly and while I have
sighted friends they are not scanner people so they don't understand how to
program a trunked system. Any help or direction you can give would be
appreciated and if you have one of these radios or have a sighted friend
I'd really appreciate email so I can get you to help me get this radio all
up and running. I think in this hand held radio they have put a new type of
speaker in it. It's outstanding clear and real sensitive. It's amazing to
me how far hand held scanners have come. I haven't owned a hand help radio
for a few years now.
Thanks for any help.

RE: Winamp Equalizer: How To Change

2006-04-08 Thread Jouie
Hi,

When you insert the disk and the winamp opens, close it. Open the Windows
media player instead. Ctrl O to get the open dialog box and go to the files
of type and press down arrow and press the end key to select All files.
Then go to the drive where the file is located. Finally, you can play the
file.

Subject: Winamp Equalizer: How To Change

Well, I never thought I'd need this info because I haven't had trouble
playing any files.

Today I received a disk in the mail containing a tutorial. I launched a
section of the tutorial in Winamp and found the quality very muffled and
almost unlistenable.

I wonder if the disk is defective or if I should try working with the
equalizer? I tried opening the file in Windows Media Player; but it started
in Winamp again.  This is no surprise because Winamp is my default player;
but now I want to try Media Player, at least for this disk. I don't want to
change the default.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I'd hate to have to send
the disk back, but it really is poor, at least on my computer.

Thanks as always in advance.

Pam

Re: Plantronics CS50?

2006-04-08 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc.
The Plantronics CS-50 or the CS-60 are wireless headsets, but they are
monaural, meaning, you can only hear in one ear.

I don't recall it interfering wit wireless keyboards.

Fwd: [Talks] Nuance Communications and Gracenote AnnounceSpeech-EnabledMedia Player Applications for Mobile Devices

2006-04-08 Thread Steve Pattison

From: Tim Noonan [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: Vip-L [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If this partnership results in devices that provide accessibility to
all features, not just music selection, it will be very
exciting!

Tim

Business Wire
Wednesday, April 05, 2006
Nuance Communications and
Gracenote Announce
Speech-Enabled Media Player
Applications for Mobile
Devices
CTIA Wireless 2006 - Expanded
Partnership Delivers Full
Voice Control of Music
Collections on Mobile Devices
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--April 5, 2006--Nuance
Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:
NUAN), the world's leading
supplier of speech and imaging
solutions, and
Gracenote, a global leader in
digital entertainment
technology, today announced a
joint partnership to develop
and market speech-enabled
solutions for
digital music collections on
mobile devices. The
partnership expands joint
development efforts
established in January 2005 to
develop speech-enabled
automotive
entertainment solutions. The
companies will demonstrate the
new mobile functionality in
Booth # 5044 at CTIA Wireless
2006, being held this week in
Las
Vegas, Nevada.
The joint offering provides a
rich voice-activated interface
to select a song, artist or
playlist on MP3-enabled mobile
devices. This combined
solution
uses underlying speech
capabilities from Nuance and
Gracenote's MediaVOCS phonetic
database and playlist
navigation to allow users to
quickly and easily
find and play the music stored
on their mobile devices.
Nuance's best-in-class
text-to-speech engine for the
mobile environment then
delivers verbal feedback
for hands-free and eyes-free
activation and selection
verification.
As handset manufacturers
offer enhanced memory on
mobile devices -- with
expected capacity for
thousands of songs within the
next year - it is becoming
increasingly difficult for
consumers to navigate the
large music collections stored
on their mobile devices, said
Marc Theeuwes, director,
mobile products,
Gracenote. By working
together, Gracenote and Nuance
are making it easy for music
lovers to access their
favorite songs on mobile
devices through speech.
Nuance's advanced natural
language technology allows
users to simply say 'play' and
then name the song title,
genre or artist, said Craig
Peddie, vice
president and general manager,
Embedded Speech Solutions,
Nuance. There is no
requirement for a strict
command interface that must be
used in order to
make the MP3 player function.
Combining Nuance's advanced
speech recognition technology
with Gracenote's extensive
database of media information
will also
allow people to simple say,
'Play the Boss,' and the
player will use the
information contained in
Gracenote's database to
recognize the nickname for
Bruce
Springsteen, and then start to
play songs recorded by Bruce
Springsteen.
The combined Nuance and
Gracenote solution allows
mobile device manufacturers to
quickly deploy speech
recognition technology in all
types of MP3-enabled
phones and to pass on superior
performance and usability to
their customers.
In addition, the solution will
make it easier for consumers
to manage and enjoy their
mobile music collections by
using voice
command-and-control to:
 -- Navigate to all media
instantly:
 -- Play any
individual song out of a
collection, just by
 saying its name.
 -- Instantly hear a
new mix, such as music from
specific
 genres, artists,
albums, regions, decades, or
years.
 -- Playlist instant new
custom mixes:
 -- Describe any
combination of qualities of
the music they
 want to hear in
natural language - such as
60s Detroit
 Soul to generate
new mixes on the fly.
 -- Keep in the mood
of the song currently playing
by asking
 for More like
this.
 -- Find information on
artists and songs:
 -- Consumers will be
able to get more information
on a
 favorite song
they've been hearing by
asking, What is
 this?

For some reason, I am unable to save a sound clip as a 64 Kbps, 22,050 Hz

Thanks all over the place gang.

EXTERNAL SOUND CARD -- RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE??

2006-04-08 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc.
Hi Everyone:

The 3.5 input jack on the AC97 onboard sound card on this computer system
apears to
be dead. I can't hear anything through the headset when I plug it in for
Skype-like conversations. So, I need to add a new sound card, preferably an
external one that is USB, FireWire powered, or Bluetooth compatible.
I will graciously appreciate any and all recommendations. I do need
something professional in quality if this does exist.

Mega thanks for all help!!

Sincerely,
