hello friends, i think i may have asked this question on this list
Hi Joe
Try the following:
Inside winamp, hit control +p for preferences and use your arrow keys to
find the general category. Once there, tab until you reach a checkbox that
says check for new winamp version at startup and uncheck it.
This should solve the problem.
Hope this helps.
All the best
Yep, it does work exactly that way -- I don't know what you were looking
at.

hello quintin,i have followed your instructions, but somehow can't find
the message you suggested, i pressed control and p when in winamp, found
general purpose but when arroing down couldn't find winamp updates
could find lots of other plug ins suggestions, but no winamp updates,
Hi Joe
When you land on the general settings, you should just use tab to find the
relevant check box, you shouldn't open the treviews with your arrow keys.
All the best

That's true, but can you record from that? If so, it's a good
workaround, albeit clumsy and fraught with the possibility of messing
something up if you change something without realizing you did it.

That has the same eq issues as resampling, but at least the only thing
that will be bad about either the analog or digital solution is the
record noise will be wrong. If you play something at double speed and
record it flat, no equalization additions or subtractions, when you
halve the playback
OK John, you've succeeded in the whack-me-over-the-head part, now
let's get on to the tell-me-about-it part (LOL).
If you set the recording option in TR to Software, it load Winamp,
which actually plays the stream in question right through your sound
card. The audio is captured from the sound

hmmm, all I do is set the job to background recording, maybe you set it
to record instead? Works for most streams, and if you can give the
direct URL to the stream, so much the better.

Background recording? That must be new, or I never noticed it before.
Will try it and get back to you in a day or two.

Hello.
I can't check right at the moment, but i'm pretty sure the latest version of
Audacity can handle mp4 files. You might have to download an extra decoder
plugin, but that should be readily available.

Is audacity free, or do I have to pay for it?
Does winamp play MP4 files and does Gold Wave play them as well?
Also, how would I convert MP4 files to MP3?

Audacity is free.
I use Switch in windows to convert MP4 files to MP3 files.
I Googled Winamp and MP4, and it looks like you can play MP4 files with
winamp, although you may need a plug in. Have you tried this yet? I only
spent a few seconds doing this. I suspect you could figure it out by

I think within the setup for background recording, there is a way to
test/play a stream to see if it works. I don't know how one could
possibly make sure a scheduled item would actually run unless you set
it up to record within the next few minutes, then afterward, editing
the entry to run at
You shouldn't need an extra plugin to play mp4s for any new version of
winamp, though if I understood the question, it was about converting the
files, and not playing them

I-don't-know-what version. I have version 5.61 my self, which I believe is
the latest. I don't believe goldwave will handle mp4s out of the box, but
there may be a plugin...
