I ended up running the analog out to a stereo instead and it sounded good. an HDMI cable was not included nor is a power supply, but I had to run mine from a USB power source for it to run reliably. There is also a switch that allows one to choose between two color display systems. Second, there is an audio optical output on the Apple TV and there are converters that will convert from Optical output to Analog output. I believe I saw those on Amazon as well. For example I've just looked up Windows Media Player Keyboard Shortcuts using my friend Google and discovered over 200 keyboard shortcuts. I know VLC has hundreds of the damn things and even more if you're prepared to take a few moments to customise the software. I'm yet to find what iTunes doesn't do that Winamp does. The interface is different and takes a little getting used to I admit. If you're prepared to spend a small amount of money you can buy one of the most exciting pieces of audio software for the Windows PC to ever have been invented on the planet and that's Total Recorder, the player is incredibly powerful even for the Standard Edition. And finally, supposing Winamp is a spent force come December 20 then there's nothing at all stopping anyone from using the software if they see fit though that may mean that the software won't be able to play any audio/video formats that come our way in the future. Hi, Not sure of the brand of the card I got as it was a birthday present, but I did get the formatting done, copied about 8.5 gigs of music over and am now experimenting with playback, file organization and such. Linksys WMB54G... What am I doing wrong?
Hi, So CompUSA was selling out its XP compatible versions of this music bridge, a device that will supposedly stream your music from your computer with your media player of choice, to your home entertainment center. I installed the software... Read the manual... Ran the setup... Found it mildly inaccessible-but-still-more-or-less-usable... Connected the WMB54G via EtherNet to my 2Wire router, set up the password and such... Then, I unplugged the WMBg54, moved it to a position closer to my stereo, plugged it in, plugged in the two RCA cables into the jack in my stereo designed to accommodate a player... Set Winamp to recognize the installed audio driver... Started Winamp, and I'm hearing nothing from my stereo. I read something on a support forum I didn't understand which seemed to say... You have to switch to the WMB54g and then back to your computer if you want to hear something. I have no idea what that person meant by switching... Has anyone used this device and if yes, what did you do to get it to work wirelessly? If I can't get it to work wirelessly, I'll just buy a long Ethernet cable and try it with the machine connected to the router, but I'm hoping it'll work via the wireless route. RE: Magic Jack... Yes!!!
You change your jfw.ini file because the Magic Jack is an audio device. Any time you introduce a new audio device, there's the possibility-likelihood that Jaws will become inappropriately enamored of that new device and start trying to speak through it instead of the sound card you normally use. There's a step-by-step article on the Freedom Scientific site which you can find by searching on a telling string like say Two sound cards That will show you how to find the system-recognized name of your preferred audio device and then how to modify your jfw.ini file so that Jaws will always use only that card. But meanwhile, the onboard software installed itself, downloaded updates and took me to the registration screen. I established my location, verified my settings... And soon, I was greeted with the soft phone's screen showing me my fine new phone number. So I plugged in a telephone to the other end of the Magic Jack. I got a dial tone, but at first, I couldn't get the phone's buttons to operate... That is, when I pushed the buttons, there was no accompanying tone pulse, so there was no dialing from the telephone. I could dial out from the soft phone, and I'd had trouble with that phone previously... During those ancient times in a former century when we used to have 56-k modems in our computers and splitters for our telephones... So I switched out that phone for a cordless phone... And after positioning the base unit for the phone far away enough from the router such that that strange helicopter sound wasn't to be heard during my test conversations, I arrived at having a fully functional telephone connection contingent only on my computer's availability. As I personally hate cell phones for anything but necessary calls, I'll enjoy talking to my relatives over a stable connection at a very reasonable price. RE: Comparison of edoral and zoom
I just got the Zoom h2 myself, and deal me in on the talk. I've figured out the most basic record functions with the default format of 16-bit wav. Tonight, armed only with the Neil Ewers tutorials, I'll try to see if I might figure out the menus. Brad Trainham -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of G. RE: So does Magic Jack work with JAWS?
I haven't received mine yet, but it's got one end that connects to a USB port in your computer and the other end connects to a telephone. You apparently plug it in; It installs itself to your computer and you can call long-distance anywhere in the United States for about $19.95 a year. You can probably call other places, but I can't remember the specifics of that. Go to http://www.magicjack.com And yes, apparently, with a little up front caution, it does work well with screen readers. Creating a new play list from within Winamp
I have a collection of about 18000 mp3s. What do I do if I want to create specific play lists from the entire collection? I'd love to have a company like Humanware or others market a product which is actually finished, but after the latest firmware was released, I must say it was worth the wait. I just read 2 books on audible this weekend. The compression where one can speed up a book without listening to chipmonks is fantastic. This type of listening takes some getting used to, but it is the best I've heard to date. The tone and other adjustments are a personal taste and itseems there was improvements here to. I've been also impressed on the navigational improvements. One should take note that sdhc cards might need a reformat to work after the upgrade, as mine was not recognized for playing files after the update. I reformatted the card and all is well. With the last firmware update the VR can now play audible files, including type 4 or whatever they're called. Obviously the player has to be registered with the Audible software. 2. Supports MP3, DAISY, including the American variant of course, and .ogg files. Virtually certain it'l play .wav files too. 3. Good through an external powered speaker. 4. Internal speaker not good for book listening and probably not meant for that either. 5. You can record memo notes with the Stream's built-in mic, or plug an external mic in. Sensitivity of this mic is very good. Does record to an odd sort of file compression type though and not sure that it's easy, yet, to play these on a PC. 6. Internal speaker is good for listening to memo recordings. 7. Good support for text and HTML files too; read by sythetic speech which to my ear is good. Maybe support for MS Word files too, but not sure on that. Navigation of text much improved with character, word, line sentence and paragraph. 8. Only real downside is USB 1.1. This means if transfering files via a UsB cable transfer is SLOW! You can use an external card writer though to place files on the SD cards it takes. 9. Battery life good at around fifteen hours, and charges up quite quickly. (Some have had problems with batteries, but think this is solved now.) In short, for the money, it has to be a good deal, well in terms of the cost of access tech devices anyway. Overall quality of playback is good, though critical music listeners might feel there's something lacking quality-wise. HTH. Re: Media Monkey
It's not particularly speech friendly, but it will reorganize vast tundras (horribly big and disorganized folders) of mp3's and attempt to group them by artist, album etc. I did get that feature to work which is nice, but I could never get it to work well with Jaws. Re: Winamp takes for ever to rip
Hi, The free Winamp takes a long time to rip by design. Winamp pro will take forever to rip unless you make sure you have all visualization stuff uninstalled, and that you're using the classic skin, not the modern skin. I finally got it to rip, but the mp3's it produces are sometimes a bit skippy/jittery. I still think Easy Cdda Extractor is the best ripper out there, but that's just me. Re: What is Album Wrap?
Album wrap is a program to make one mp3 out of an album, while preserving the tag data for each song. I've never used it, but I've used Album Wrap Extractor, its free companion program which splits the big mp3 created by Album Wrap back into its original parts. The only problem with it is that some people apparently don't encode the albw files properly, and one can spend hours getting a file, thinkingone will have the complete album to split into its individual tracks, and then be told upon attempting the extraction This is not a valid album Wrap archive.. Brad On Sun, 23 Jan 2005 09:44:55 -0500, you wrote: Hello everyone, As my subject says, I'd like to know what Album Wrap is. How does it work? And why would you want to use it? I recently got some CD's, and these files are MP3's. The person used Album Wrap I believe. The files say, ALBW in them, so I'm assuming that means Album Wrap. Anyway, when I try to play these CD's, they will play. However, in certain spots on the albums, my CD player makes this odd noise, and not like the CD's are messed up either. These are live albums, and I hear this noise when the people clap after a song. Also, I had one of these albums on my computer, and when I play it using Real Player, the audio stops whenever the people clap. I don't know if it would start back up on it's own or not, because I never wait for it to. I just rewind it back a bit, then fast forward threw the clapping, until the next song. So, can I change the format of these files, using Goldwave? I want to keep them as mp3's, and I'd like to keep the album as a whole, sense it is live. I'm just not too sure what the best way to do that is. Any help on this will be much appreciated. Slow Rips With Winamp Pro
Hi, Does anyone know why Winamp Pro is ripping so slow for me? I've got Winamp 5.07, properly registered (as far as I know) as Winamp pro, but the rip takes as long or longer than it would to simply play the disk. I get normal rip speeds using Easy Cd-Da Extractor, so I am puzzled as to what's causing this issue with Winamp Pro. any information would be appreciated. Album Wrap
Album Wrap is a program for archiving multiple mp3 files into one big mp3. I don't know how this is accomplished, but the archive, itself an mp3 can be played via Winamp or any other such mp3 playing software. The archive can be split up into its original components by using Album Wrap's companion program, Album Extractor, and these files also have their proper mp3 tags such that they'll show up properly named in Winamp. I can't remember the web site, but if you do a Google on Album Wrap, you'll soon be awash in possibilities of attaining this software, which I think sells for $15. The Extractor program is free, and yes, the Extractor program is accessible with Jfw 5 on Windows XP, and I bet it would work on whatever else you might be using.
