just for information, the newest version of Format Factory which is 3.1.1 is
not accessible at all. I think they changed things for people who use
tablets, etc. I never tried going through the context menu but always
through the program but now when you click on an item in the left side menu
nothing shows up like what kind of audio files do you want to make?
I did change the format of some audio using the context menu but I could not
tab through the dialog as in earlier versions and could not see where to
change the bit rate, etc. So I will be going back to the previous version.
It also adds the ask toolbar but I have WinPatrol which I use to stop it but
then use CCleaner to uninstall it.

Thanks for the information. Somehow, I avoided the Ask toolbar or at least
was able to delete it. Too bad about the lack of higher bit rates as it is
otherwise a good product.

To try to answer Clifford's question, I checked out the current version of
format factory on the web, because I haven't updated since version 2.96 and
didn't know if things had changed. However, I found out that with the new
version, you can not opt out of the Ask toolbar during installation. And the
Ask toolbar is very difficult to eliminate. You need a program like Revo
Uninstaller. Therefore, unless you have an earlier version that lets you say
no to the Ask toolbar, or unless you want the Ask toolbar, I can no longer
recommend Format Factory.
By the way, you're correct about the low bit rate. I use Total Recorder when
I want higher ones.

I've never been able to figure out how to get high bit rate mp3s with
Format Factory. It seems to top out at 128 kbps and I prefer bit rates of
320 kbps. Am I missing something?

Okay, decided not to use Easy CD DA Extractor any longer as the software
certainly wasn't becoming any more accessible under Windows, I think the
name of the software has also changed so forgive me <smile>.
So now what to use for Audio file format conversion? Well I just upgraded
my version of Prism Video Converter Plus so decided to look at some of
the
bundled software I could buy alongside my upgrade, I chose to buy the
Switch Plus Audio Format Converter and Wave Pad, I'll talk about the Wave
Pad Audio Editor in another message.
I've seen mention of the Switch Audio Format Converter in previous
messages, list members have given Switch - on previous occasions - a good
wrap and at the discounted price of $10.00 for the Plus edition I decided
to buy and try.
I'm not disappointed.
