Re: Audacity 2.2.0 has been released

Hi Don,
In the case of Audacity, the only two differences between using the
installer and the portable version are:
1. If you use the installer, the installed version is automatically
available to all users on the computer.
2. The portable version does not include a copy of the manual. However, you
can download this separately if you wish.

David.

I have a related question. I note that there is a full install version and
a portable version of Audacity. I have noted that many programs have
both a full
install and a portable version. So I conclude that there must be some advantage
of the full install over the portable version of a program. If this is
correct, just what is the advantage specifically in the case of Audacity?

For a summary of new features see:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/new_features_in_this_release.html

One of the new features is that clips are now accessible for users of
screen readers.

For Windows users, these are the direct links for Audacity 2.2.0:
1. The Installer version:
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-win-2.2.0.exe
2. The portable version:
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-win-2.2.0.zip

I've updated by Jaws guide to Audacity for version 2.2.0, and it's
available here:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.2.0-Guide.html

As previously, nearly all of this guide is also applicable to users of
NVDA

and Window-Eyes.

Unfortunately, there is not a version of Audacity 2.2.0 which is usefully
accessible with VoiceOver on Macs. The most recent accessible version on
Macs is still the screen reader version of Audacity 2.1.1:
