Re: [pca] Download server issues

2010-12-15 Thread Nishimura, Scott L (IT Solutions)
In Oracle's defense, this problem of account attribution precedes Oracle: I
remember having similar problems with Sun. The "administrator" of the support
contract would sometimes be a buyer within the company who had no technical
knowledge which would lead to problems down the road.

Same thing happened here, although I didn't even know the guy who was listed as
an administrator. The only thing connecting us is that we both work for the
University of Vienna, and Oracle seems to throw us into the same pot for that.
I
don't find it funny that I saw someone unknown as being the admin for a support
contract we signed and paid. An email has been sent to the other guy and he had
to confirm me as an admin.

Anyway - thanks to Scott and John for the detailed descriptions of possible
measures to take to fix this. Everybody with download problems should read
their
messages, login to Oracle Support and check the "Admin" section for proper
setup
of the "Support IDs".

Ying,

Your co-worker probably has an email in his inbox outlining that you have
made a request to access that SID and what to do about it. I think it's a
"first come, first served" thing: my co-worker got to SID A before I did and
therefore, he claimed ownership.

I think there was/is a disconnect between what you could do prior to 12/10 and
what the system thinks you can do now. Good thing John Horne on this list
pointed out the possibility or else I'd still be wondering what was wrong.

Thanks Scott. I am not listed at all. Weird, I was able to open cases and

Anyway, my coworker who is listed as only administrator is on a one-month

Yes. 119254-78 and 12-08 are the two patches that I was able to download.

Ying,

Does it show you as the administrator or someone else? I have 2 SIDs to
choose from: "A" had a coworker listed as the admin and "B" had me listed as
the admin. I first tried A but it said "pending" so I tried "B" and that
worked.

Look in the "Account and Privileges" tab under Settings in the "Administrators"
column for a given SID. Click on "View...": is your username listed and are
you logged in as that username? Possibly a dumb question but I had to ask.

I talked to the co-worker in question and he had to log in and accept me as
another user on the A SID. I first showed up as a "user" and he did something
to "promote" me to an admin.

Since my experience with B was that it automatically made me an admin, I'm
guessing that your SID listed someone else as the admin. That person should
get an email stating that you are requesting access to this SID.

You might also try completely logging out and back in just to see if that makes
any difference.

Let me guess: the two patches you could download were 119254-78 and 12-08?
That misled me: I thought my account setup must be correct if I was able to
download 2 patches. I was wrong.

Re: [pca] Download server issues

2010-12-14 Thread Nishimura, Scott L (IT Solutions)
Good catch, John.

Warning: long, Odyssey-like explanation follows [but at least it's not all
Greek]

I previously was able to access My Oracle Support with no problem but the key
was that patch downloads were still coming from Sunsolve pre-12/10. But when I
just tried it I got an red warning saying that "Access to all other features in
My Oracle Support is not available. This account requires one valid Support
Identifier."

I then entered in a couple of valid support contracts but the system rejected
those. I finally clicked on "Find Support Identifier" and entered a serial #
and it gave me a # which I had never seen before. I entered that # and the
system accepted it but still told me I had no privileges. Turns out someone
else at my org. already claimed that #.

So I used another serial # from a different set of machines and I was the first
to use it so it let me in. But then it had an error communicating with the
server and told me to try again later.

I came back in and selected the Support ID that worked and was able to view
patches but when I tried to download 146019-01, for example, I got

"You do not have permission to download OS patches. Either your Customer
Support Identifier administrator did not allow you to download patches or
please contact Oracle Support Sales to extend your support contract to include
access to OS patches."

But I checked and I'm an administrator so I'm puzzled as to why I can't
download.

I finally logged out all the way and logged back in: now I can download from
the web page.

I also can now download all missing patches via pca.

I suspect most people are having the same issue that John pointed out. The
reason I didn't notice it is because MOS access was fine when I tested it
before the 12/10 switchover but I wasn't able to test patch downloads because
the web page still directed me to Sunsolve.

Hello,

I may have missed some emails about this, but this morning I noticed
that we were also having the 403 problems. I had previously registered
for an MOS account, and had provided our Sun contract number as part of
the registration process (can't remember exactly what part). Test
downloads from Oracle with our new account worked fine.

Using the new PCA version, and our new MOS account, we got the 403
errors. The test download of patch 119254-78 worked fine. As did
downloading just the README file.

Logging into Oracle we immediately received an error that we had no
'Support Identifiers' associated with our account. As such we could not
download any patches. I thought this had all been taken care of when we
had registered and given our Sun contract number. After battling with
flash a bit, I managed to find out our Support ID (from Oracle) and
register that with our account. We can now download the outstanding
patches.

So, although you may think everything has been set up correctly at the
Oracle end, it may be worth logging in just to be sure.

I'm told the download server issue has now been fixed (as of 22:30 PST).

Things look better here today. I successfully downloaded a random set of
Solaris 10 patches, and today's new patches (e.g. 119812-11/119813-13) worked
fine, too.

If somebody reports patch download problems, please always try whether
119254-78 works. If this one doesn't work, it's most probably a problem with
the MOS account (or PCA setup) and not a general problem of a patch missing on
Oracle's patch server. This will make it easier to isolate the issue.

Re: [pca] Download server issues

2010-12-14 Thread Glen Gunselman

Hopefully it's all sorted out and this is not important, but I received an
email on Nov 18th titled "CORRECTION: Your Oracle Support Identifier
Information". The "New Support Identifier"s listed are not the current SIDs
for the products covered by the "Legacy Sun Contract Number"s listed.
I assume that if I can see the Assets under my MOS Profile I should be able to
download patches, but the SIDs do not match the info in the email of Nov 18th.

have a good day,
GlenG
P.S. I have not tried downloading patches today - other fires to (hopefully)
put out ...
