i don't think i understand the question.

you need to have at least 1 plugin, in order to make sensible use of
[pdp_freeframe]; it doesn't matter which plugin this is

pete warden's plugins are a collection of plugins; you don't need to
have them in order to use other plugins

pete warden's plugins are available for linux, osx and w32

pete warden's plugins are the largest collection of open source ff
plugins available. this is the reason why they are mentioned so often
here: it's easy to use them as test cases to show that something is
(not) working.

[PD] smartphone advice

2009-10-29 Thread Si Mills
I know the subject of this post sounds like it would be more apt for
Which? Mobile or something, but please bear with me.the reason for
me posting here will become clear :) i will be getting a new
smartphone soon, now I have a few choices:

iphone
Android
Palm
Windows Mobile

I would like to know which would best for making sounds with, and in
the future, running Pd on ultimately. I know iPhone shared the glut of
music apps at present, and Android is seemingly devoid of audio apps.
I guess the Palm isn't really relevant.

For some reason i am turned off the the idea of an iphone - that isn't
an anti-apple thing - all the computers i use are apple. I am
attracted to Android as a platform, even though there is bog all for
it at the moment, but I feel there is going to be a massive explosion
on that front soon, and in the future due to the nature of the
platform, is best stead for things to come. What a crazy scenario!

So my question is; what is the best, or WILL be the best smartphone
for running audio apps?

Hey Olsen,

Let's keep this on the list since its of general interest. For your
problem, you just need to remove the previous build files:

rm -rf /home/olsen/pd/pd-extended_2/pure-data/packages/linux_make/build

Also, a 9.10 build was just recently posted here too. You could try
that one.

Re: [PD] smartphone advice

2009-10-29 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

THere are a number of developments in this regard:

- Pd (pd-gui-rewrite 0.43 branch) now builds directly for Android and
Apple iPhoneOS. Maemo should be pretty easy too. No audio yet, but
that's in the works.

- Pd has been available in the Debian-armel branch for a while, that
means lots of devices if you are willing to install your own OS. You
can install Debian in parallel with Android.

- you can build PDa to run on a wide range of free distros, like
Maemo, Familiar, Angstrom, OpenMoko, reware for ipods, Palms, etc.

rjdj runs well on iPhoneOS, so that means Pd can be made to work well
there. Android will take a fair amount of work to get up to the same
level, but in the long run will probably be easier since the platform
is a lot more open.

It seems to be fixed in 0.42.5. I looked at backporting, its
complicated and not worth it. Its a much better use of time to put
that effort into making 0.42.5 work better. Try using 0.42.5 nightly
build of Pd-extended and see if the bug is still there.

[PD] alsamidi with .pdsettings?

2009-10-29 Thread João Pais

Hi,

I'm trying to start pd with -jack -alsamidi, to connect my bcf+2000. but
when I do that, pd opens 2 ports, instead of 1. is it possible to have pd
starting with alsamidi with only 1 port?

Thanks,

João Pais

[PD] More on pd-ext-devel on windows

2009-10-29 Thread João Pais

Hi,

a couple more snippets of information in the version downloaded some days
ago (I have no reference now to the concrete version):

- shift-select doesn't work, it's as if shift wouldn't be pressed.
- windows don't save their positions/size, even when the patch is saved
when they're on focus.
Which reminds me of a tuning up of a feature: Is it possible to save the
current size of subwindows, when the focus is in any part of the patch?
F.e. if I change the size of a subwindow, this size will only be retained
if I save the patch with the subpatch on focus. If I'm on another
subpatch, the new window size won't be retained.

- when a patch window is open, the window shows up and hides the sliders
almost immediately (it takes around 1/10 sec.). That provokes a small cpu
peak (up to 20% on my old thinkpad).

- when creating a send/receive name for any gui object, the $ get replaced
with #.

A feature request more than a bug: home and end don't really work properly
while editing comments/objects. up+down arrow do their job. Although it
would make more sense if home+end would work, and up+down would move the
cursor above/below.

And something strange just happened: I installed the latest version of
42.5 again, and the tcl/tk properties' dialogs are also with very small
font size (like the path window before).

Best,

João Pais

Re: [PD] audio reactive video generator

2009-10-29 Thread Adityo Pratomo
Here's my pd patch. Basically it consists of a sequencer for a synth and a
GEM visual generator. The frequency of the synth is controlled by slider
bars. These slider bars also control the cuboid movement.

So try it, hope it will answer your question :)

  that would be amazing :)
im guessing i could just sequence a good few notes to sync to the tempo of
 my songs
thatd make it seem more 'together' for lack of a better word..
 cheers, jackson

hi there, i've been playing with these kind of stuff for my last
exhibition. I use midi notes that will trigger some cuboid movement. Is this
what you looking for? If so, Perhaps i could send you my patch that i used
recently. I'm still at the office right now, but after office hour, i'll be
 able to send you.

Re: [PD] life as a new media artist

2009-10-29 Thread Adityo Pratomo
Hmm, I see. Looks like we have to have a day job right? Just curious, is
there anyone have a day job in a field that has no relation with art? Like
for example, I myself, I work as a network consultant. And then use my spare
time to do some art stuff.

The day job is a wonderful thing when you find a good one. I do a lot of

 want to.

Here's the last big project that was done from our own pockets for our own
satisfaction. It has nothing to do with pd, in fact we didn't even use
 computers anywhere in the process:

 hi there everyone!

well, my question would be very simple this time. Is there anyone here
make a living as a new media artist? If yes, how do you get money to
financially funding your project while still gaining money for personal
usage or eve for providing your family? or do you have another job?

 Thank you for answering :)
