sorry if i haven't followed this discussion properly,
but i have had trouble with making abstractions that can take either a
symbol or float as an argument.
the only way i could manage was to make a (f $1) object and a (symbol $1)
object...and then direct them both to (list2symbol)

i just installed pd-extended in ubuntu studio, and played around with the
jack settings so as to avoid A/D/A errors..and it seemed to be working ok.
but then all of a sudden, after 10 or 15 minutes, pd will just freeze. this
happened about 5 or 6 times today, so it wasn't a one off.
what's

maybe you mean you need the [trigger] object? this determines the order in
which messages are passed, and is one of the fundamental building blocks of
pd. it is abreviated as [t ]

well my mac just totally died, so i am going 100% linux from now on, and
bp2~ doesn't work.
but i am going 100% linux, so i am getting used to things not working ;)
filter~ seems to work ok though, so i guess the path to the abstraction is
not set.

i keep getting SIMD messages in pd's console window. doesn't seem to be
causing any harm, but there are a lot of them and they get a bit annoying.
it's a new thing that only started happening since i switched to pd extended
(hans installer) 0.39.2 RC 2

yes, i use [~] a lot.
sometimes if i have 10 of them in different synths, i will get lots of SIMD
messages in the console. would be good if you could remove it.

it took me 5 months to figure out the difference between objects, externals,
and abstractionsgod only knows how much longer it would have taken if
i'd had to deal with 'classes' as well. i probably would have given up.
'object' has always been used (even if it is sometimes incorrectly
this is how i order notes in a table:
when a new note is input, read through the table until you reach either a 0,
or a number higher than the new note. if you reach a zero, then put the new
note in place of the zero. if you reach a higher note, then shift every
remaining note 1 step forward in
check the send/receive properties for your 'slew' slider. ;)

i have something i'd like to add to pdpedia, but it seems the datapool is
still not functional.
the current version says 'this is how pdpedia MIGHT look' ...so when will it
actually be ready to use?

ok. i know pdpedia only a rough draft at the moment, which is why i felt
more comfortable messing round and editing stuff.
i have saved my input as .txt files and will add it to the real pdpedia when
you get it up and running.

the workaround i have at the moment is that audacity lets you export cue
points as a .txt file.
As long as you don't add any labels to your cue points, then that text file
contains a list of cue point times which you can read directly into an array
in pd.
in audacity, do the following:

i guess it would help for debugging of newer patches on older versions of
pd.
if you create [send x] and feed it [symbol x] [symbol y] symbol z], then it
will always send to x in older versions of pd, so it might be harder to find
the source of error. however, if you just create [send], it will
it seems that the media pool (database) still hasn't been set up. once
that works, i can start doing some pages.

when you send a message to trigger a new slice, do the following:
1) send a [vline~] ramp to cut the volume
ie,

is there any way to reset a block?
i am using the guts from the phase vocoder in the documentation, but
it clips off the attack when i trigger percussion samples.
so what i need to do (unless someone has a better suggestion) is
retrigger the block at the same as triggering the sample to play.

as i just found out, you need a backslash in front of $ args. eg.. /$1-THREE
no idea what the float 0 means though.

i feel your pain mate,
i have a mac, and sometimes i get other people's patches, and the
bottom corner of the patch goes below the bottom of the screen and it
is impossible to resize.
the workaround i use is to copy the entire patch into a new window and
'save as'
if there is a real solution,
i just set up a new wiki for pd, aimed at providing a simple and easy
way for pd users to share their patches / tutorials, etc...
so, this should complement the pdpedia quite well.

so, i don't know too much about fft, but here's what i can gather.
hopefully some people who actually understand it can explain where i
am wrong:
fft analyzes a 'block' of samples. a block is just a section of
consecutive samples. pd's default block size is 64 samples, which is
why you get 64
so why not just have 8 'sandboxes' all within one abstraction and
then just save that every time you edit it?
i always try to think within what i know pd can do..and then at a last
resort look to externals or exotic patching fixesbut i don't think
you're at the last resort yet.
there must
as far as i can tell, ssaad just saves the state of sliders, arrays
etc that are already a part of the patch...but what chuck needs is a
way to save different combos of these gui objects.
can ssaad do that?

The main reason we use complex numbers in electronic music is
because they magically automate trigonometric calculations. We
frequently have to add angles together in order to talk about the

two-dimensional and that signals to be analysed are presumed to be

actually i really love this one. great idea and well put together.
you set up a really good system with the 3 arrays, so the visual
representation is very effective.
it's one of the problems with pd that the visual element is not so

i have never felt the need for segmented patch cords. and as many
people keep saying, your patches will eventually end up neater and
more logical without them. they force you to patch more correctly.
infinite undos would be nice though :)
