apropos slices,

is there a patch for rearranging slices based on audio descriptors
(i.e. amplitude or spectral centroid) in pd?

might be this one:

or maybe this one (that i made):

if not, search the forum for 'slicer' and pretty much everyone has
had a go

making one at some time or other :D

ah yes, that was it, as I remember. I did some edits to allow for more
than 100 fragments, the files I'm using have more than that initially
(which have to be mixed up together).

If I have time later, I would try to implement a zoom function. For
some things it has to be seen in detail.

thanks,

João

indeed, pyo looks really cool, kudos ;)

a couple of remarks with your example though.
my sc example description was not 100% accurate:

BTW, (getting a bit OT here) I have some questions about pyo.
is there a way to use double precision ?

$  from pyo import *
$ pyo version 0.5.0 (uses single precision)

for the Server to boot properly, I have to start jackd, then
Server().boot() gives me an Error with PortAudio incorrect channels

it seems also that it segfaults easily.. no time right now but I'll
make more tests some time...

second one somehow. But they are separate gemlists and are not

[PD] GEM: pix_coordinate: how to use (was GEM: possibility to split gemframebuffer or gemlist?)

Hi again,

the patch Jack sent me was what I was looking for. However I have some
troubles with the pix_coordinate object. Currently the final image is
split into two rectangles that sit left to right next to each other,
but what I actually need now is from top to down.

I don't know how to manipulate pix_coordinate. I have no idea how to
use them as they are no XYZ coordinates. How can I achieve what I need?

Thanks a lot best

Re: [PD] imager (how to build an imager in pd?)

2009-11-13 Thread Johannes

thanks guys,

andrew, nice that you wrote about the logic imager. i was inspired by it
to think about how the imager effect workes.
do you think there is no delay between the channels at all? is it just
stereo filtering?

any other voices on how to build an imager in pd?

Andrew Faraday schrieb:
Dunno if this is relevant. The stereo imager on Logic Pro assigns
frequency bands to be boosted and cut slightly in each channel
(roughly describing a sine wave through the frequency spectrum) so
that there'll be more of one band in the left, the same band is
slightly cut in the right, thus creating the illusion of a wider
stereo image. Although this is fully adjustable so I can't really tell
you where to start emulating this. It's a very subtle effect, too,
even at it's most severe there's very little difference.

As a simple version of this you could use the hi-fi 'surround' method,
simply boost the treble (from about 10kHz) in one or other chanel, in
theory then that will cause more reflectivity in the room and stereo
effects become 'surround' (sic) effects. It's not as good as it
sounds, but it is one way to vary your stereo image.

 Ah you must mean this:

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereo_imaging

Your delay idea only covers one part of the psychoacoustics of the
stereo image: the difference in time when a sound reaches each ear.
Psychoacoustics are a bit more complicated than that I'm afraid. You
might look up HRTF (head related transfer functions) to get a better

Your delay idea only covers one part of the psychoacoustics of the
stereo image: the difference in time when a sound reaches each ear.
Psychoacoustics are a bit more complicated than that I'm afraid. You
might look up HRTF (head related transfer functions) to get a better
idea of the time differences involved. But there are a lot of other
factors. An intro book on psychoacoustic might be a good place to start.

Re: [PD] call for translations for new Pd GUI

2009-08-22 Thread Johannes Burström
Hi,

Attached is a first try of a Swedish translation, mostly for getting
the å's, ä's and ö's into the picture. It seems like some of the
phrases isn't updated in the ui -- don't know if it's due to the
current state of the devel branch or my incompetence. Also, some label
widths seem to be hardcoded, so some label texts are cropped.

When doing the translation, it also came to my mind that it could be
good to rewrite also the english descriptions. Especially the ui
object properties are quite hard to read (and understand), and could
be made easier with just some standard on punctuation and
capitalization. But I haven't been very involved in the discussion, so
I don't know if i'm just repeating what's already been discussed...

Re: [PD] Problem about saving a table (for using own waveform)

Maybe you are using [table] -- This doesn't work, iirc: you need to
create an array by using put = array from the menu for it to be saved
with the patch. The [table] arrays can't be saved, even if you click
the save contents checkbox -- this is explained in the [table] help
file.

hope this helps,

Wow. But, are there plans for a French translation? If there were one by
the time I teach the next pd workshop, then I would make it required
reading... and if I end up not teaching, I'd get other teachers to make
it required reading... if they wouldn't already do that. Really, I think

it more if it were in French.

No, there are no plans, but of course it would be great if anyone could

However, you can also try to stream it directly from the harddisk with
[readsf~] - then you don't have to load them at all !

 LG
 Georg

 gruss georg,

i want to loop 4*4 samples at the same time. will readsf~ be good for that?

It depends: You can just reopen the files of course. remeber to first
send the open ... command before sending another 1 to resume
playing. If this will be smooth depends on your material, but maybe
you can mask the transition a bit, for example by using two readsf~ to
play the same file and start them slightly shifted (maybe prepare your
 soundfiles accordingly).

Another possibility is for example illustrated in the class material
Tom Erbe just posted: It shows how you can load only part of a sample
 into a table. See:
 http://music.ucsd.edu/~tre/172/w6a-soundfilerbuffering.pd
 http://music.ucsd.edu/~tre/classblog.php

(Probably works best with a threaded soundfiler.)

And finally you can combine the partial soundfiler loading (-skip
...) with readsf~ playing by loading e.g. the beginning of a sample
into a table and then switch over to playing the rest of the sample
from disk with readsf~. You can do this to smooth out possible
loop-point clicks as well by fading out readsf~ and switching over to
 table-playing again.

Lots of possibilities, some slightly hackish, but that's part of the
 fun.

 Ciao

hey list,

i ve tried 2 options to play at least 7 quad-samples out of the arrays.

first way is to play the sample with readsf~ and write it straight
into 4 arrays with tabwrite~. when readsf~ finished then start play
out of the
arrays. this needs a lot of time to start playing - maybe depending on
the length
(each quad-sample is 90 sec) - and interrupts before it plays out of
the arrays.

second way based on

http://music.ucsd.edu/~tre/172/w6a-soundfilerbuffering.pd

...is to use the soundfiler wich gets 2 messages by a bang and reading
the same
quad-sample into 8 arrays (2 buffer, each buffer 4 arrays) and switch
betrween them
at a specified sample. (in this case 661500 samples)

so when i try to play 7 samples, iam going to read in 56 arrays at same
time, with
tabplay~ it needs 10 sec to start playing.

when i read the second buffer later the the the first one it takes about
5 sec to play
and it interrupts at the transition.

any idea to handle that kind of problem?

other ways to get much better results?

thanks and shouts . joh

how to block or freeze a message in time?
i want to send 2 messages. one should
recieved later than the other one.

There are various ways. A simple one is to put both messages in a
message box seperated by a comma. Then both will come after each
other. If you want to temporarily store any normal message, you can
use the [list] object's right inlet. Send a bang to the left inlet to
retrieve the message. A more complex setup is possible with
list-fifo.pd from the [list]-abs collection, which is a first in,
first out buffer for arbitrary messages (list-lifo is the same for
last in, last out). Just send messages to its second inlet and get the
messages out again one by one with bangs into the first inlet.

 Ciao

thanks frank,

list is exactly the object i was searching for.

44.1 kHz.

i am using the tabplay~ object to play out of 48 arrays.
it takes alot of time to load the samples in the arrays.

what is the best way to load the samples into the arrays in less time?
is it more efficient to use 4 channel audio files with soundfiler?

[PD] graphical possibilities in GEM

hello community!

1.)thank you very much for your help on creating lines and curbes in Gem! I

work on...
also thanks to patrick: i obtained to draw with the mouse in Gemwin, the only
problem is, that the line dosn´t really follow the cursor of the mouse...well,
also still some work.
2.)as i am preparing a project with PD and Gem, i would like to ask about the
graphical possibilities. Maybe, it´s a stupid question, but can anybody send me
some examples or patches, what Gem is able to create? I am still at the
beginning of working with Gem but some help would accelerate my knowledge.
3.)One specific question: is there any possibility to work with fractals or the
formulas of them on Gem? maybe any patches exist already? any hint would be
great for me!!!
Thanks a lot for your help!

[PD] specific questions on Gem

2007-02-01 Thread Johannes Eckart

hello community of Pure Data!

My name is Johannes Eckart, comming originally from Salzburg-Austria and at the
moment studying in Paris handcraft-arts. In my free-time and also for practical
reasons in my study, i started working on Pure-Data and its library Gem. i
already learned all the basics and i´m feeling quite well with the program.
but actually i am a beginner, so i have many questions!! but one after
another...
for today i just want to pose a question on Gem:
i want to design lines and curbes in a Gem-window. the difficulty is, that i
want to draw this lines by giving the coordinates directly to the path. maybe
for better understanding: i want to create a circle, but he must not appear
immediately. he must be drawn like with a pencil.
i hope that somebody can send me maybe an already existing path or some
explanation on how to solve this problem!
i am very glad to be in this mailing-list and hope to give and get many answers!
thank you,
Johannes Eckart

P.S.: as i am new, please tell me, when my netiquette is not correct :)

 what`s the problem?

it seems that you don't have libmpeg ...

how did you install pd and all the externals ?
because if you are on ubuntu you can also use the gem debian packages,
where all the dependencies will be resolved automatically ...

gruss,

ah thanks. a triangle oscillator is exactly what i need. cheers.

Keep in mind that none of these are anti-aliased AFAIK, so you could
easily get aliased harmonic frequencies. There's a few threads in the
archive about avoiding this. My personal solution is to use [plugin~]
with the BLOP LADSPA oscillator plugins.

I wonder how hard it would be to implement the BLOP LADSPA algorithm
in Pd, so that there would be native anti-aliased oscilators. Its
something that Pd sorely needs.
