Re: [PD] midi controller advice?

2007-08-07 Thread adam armfield
I think the DIY route is a good one, depending on your
abilities, you can get a fairly pre-made board from
doepfer attach (screw on) jack sockets for up to 16
pedals (or more with expansion), or you might look at
an even more DIY solution if you are good at soldering
 building stuff

one thing to look out for is the impedance... some
generic pedals have an impedance matching circuit
which would get round the problem of the board wanting
10k pots and the pedal having 50k ones (for instance)

do you know if it uses sysex mostly or does it use cc

Something I feel very strongly about though, are
there
still 'licensing issues' with Csound or has it shaken
off
all it's encumberances and become a totally free OS
codebase?

i heard john ffitch (head csound bloke, and a
professor at bath uni) do a talk a couple of years
back, he said that after long discussions with mit, it
is open source now, they did a total rewrite for the
latest version i think, whether this means it's
totally totally OS is of course another matter ;-)

[PD] apt get for abstractions

2007-03-11 Thread adam armfield
following on from the ongoing debate about bundles for
patches with many abstractions, I had the idea for an
apt-get style system, where someone who wants a patch
can enter a command get all necessary abstractions
at the same time...

Re: [PD] slicing samples

Is there an object or abstraction that I should be
using to achieve
 this?

for supercollider there is the bbcut library... i
think theres a csound version too (could be used with
pd with the csoundlib~ thingy)

sc pd could also communicate via osc

I wrote a basic editor for the pd feature I wrote for
sound on sound, you can adapt it fairly easily as long
as you have your midi implentation guide (which cc
number controls what).

This one just does cc numbers, pd does support sysex
as well though i think.

There are free editors for the dx7 online, my friend
uses one with a TX7.

Re: [PD] Abstraction [define]

2006-12-16 Thread adam armfield
i think it'd be worth having the option to just bundle
abstractions etc. as well as bundle everything (inc
externals)

mostly in the interests of keeping file sizes down, i
can see that as well as using this to distribute
patches easily, it'd be a nice tool for archiving
patches in one particular state (as Frank suggested)

best wishes

hi Paul:

i think a friend of mine glued pd to a windows app
using some perl... also, i think the cdp is largely a
collection of one guys algorithims, so these might
have been ported to a *nix system too, if this is any
help ;-)
