[PD] disable auto-connect with jackd

2014-02-17 Thread stéfan piat
hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to avoid puredata to auto connect with
jack ?

I saw there is a patch to disallow autconnect from jack
http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2013-04/102205.html

but is there no way (still) to do it from pd ?

thanks,

[PD] RPI + new canvas position

2013-05-06 Thread stéfan piat
hello,

I just installed pd 0.43.2 on linux raspberrypi 3.6.11+
(from apt-get install puredata)

And I have a problem when creating a new patch/canvas : it,s created half
away in the top left corner of the screen, and I cannot move it as I cannot
access to its menubar.

I don't know if it a problem related to my configuration, or if itś pd
related problem (I have only this problem with pd) but maybe there is a
trick to change the default canvas position ? cannot find it..

thanks for your help

it's a bit out of topic, but I recently noticed strange behaviors of

For [pix_video] [dialog( make pd crash (not always) when trying to switch
between different video devices
(actually we were unable to change the video device, ant the default one
was not always the built-in camera)
I noticed on one of the computers that [enumerate( does work only when no
usb camera where plugged in
As for pix_record [codeclist( didn't output any codec list and we couldn't
set any codec either

you don't need dialog to setup camera, as a proof, there isn't any dialog

Don't really get it. I'm sending [enumProps( to [pix_video], but if I do
that before anything else I get the following error message: [pix_video]:
cannot enumerate properties without a valid video-device
If I set the desired camera via [dialog( I get nothing...
What I wanna do is use a PS3 eye camera for a live performance, but I'd
rather use Pd -nogui. The only way though I can choose this camera is to
first create and render a [gemwin], destroy it and then send [dialog( to
[pix_video], which won't be possible without the gui.
So, to put my initial question in other words, how is it possible to set
a camera other than the built in, without the gui?

 2013/3/3 Alexandros Drymonitis adr...@gmail.com

With midi or audio you can send Pd a message on load which you get
either with [get-midi-dialog] and [get-audio-dialog] or by connecting [r
pd] to [print], then go to midi/audio settings and press ok. This gives
 you
the message you have to send so you can use these settings immediately
(say, if you use pd -nogui).
What about using a camera other than the built-in? You can set that by
sending [dialog( to [pix_video], but is it possible to set it by sending
 Pd
a message? If so, where do you get this message from?

[#out window] is an alias for [#out sdl] when on Windows. It's an alias
for other things on Linux OSX.

[#out sdl], by default, has three shortcuts for activating fullscreen :
you can press f, Escape or F11. I picked those three because they are the

It means that GridFlow's file manager could not find a handler for .mov
files. This probably means that you don't have one. Libquicktime support has
not been added to the Windows build, and I don't remember why, but maybe
it's just that I haven't tried (I only boot windows to make

On Linux you could use xdotool via [shell]

I think however that as soon as you click the mouse in the Gemwin, it will
steal back the focus. If _only_ the mousewheel is used, it may work, not
 sure, you'll have to try.
I also vaguely remember an external called wmangler, which had something

try border 0 and make the window fullscreen by setting the dimensions of
 your display (i.e. dimen 1280 800).
Do not use the fullscreen and menubar messages.
If you have several monitors connected, shift the window using offset x
 y to the desired monitor.
This should work on most machines.

But always set up some hotkey for destroying the gemwin, since you won't
have access to your destroy button with a fullscreen gemwin.
I often use the right mouse button for that with [gemmouse]

Re: [PD] menubar os x

2011-09-19 Thread stéfan piat
hello marian

thanks for your tip

but if I make the window fullscreen by setting the dimensions of my display,
without using menubar,
the menubar is over the window...
and I have only one monitor... so I can't shift my window to a monitor
without menubar...

try border 0 and make the window fullscreen by setting the dimensions of
 your display (i.e. dimen 1280 800).

 Hey

I am soliciting examples for entry level GEM patches that work on
linux/windows and OSX that show how to mix a video or react to sound. I
recall a set of them called Begenswelder? That had a real good example for
a sound reactive GEM patch but I cannot find it in my files, Please
refresh my memory and as I asked anyone who has a simple patch(s) for
understanding GEM or Vjing that works cross platform would be greatly
appreciated. I have a few but I am trying to expand my cross platform
 examples.

 Thanks in advance

Re: [PD] good video codec for gem+windows ?

2010-10-03 Thread stéfan piat
hello,

no I don't find a solution,
I think maybe to encode in .mjpg could do the trick
(or to force to using QTsupport as Iohannes suggest)

but I don't have anymore this windows machine to test

2010/10/2 Fernando Krum ferk...@gmail.com

 Hi there Stéfan,

did you manage to get through this ?
i'm sort of having the same problem here...
trying to play video files on a Vista machine with pix_film support for
 both
 DirectShow and Quicktime.
when i try to play a video encoded on Photo-JPG on pix_film, the video
 playback
gets really slow. When I make it fullscreen, the CPU load goes over 200%.

Does anybody knows why is that happening ?
I have tried Apple Photo-Jpg and Photo JPEG as encoder for pix_film.
 the movie is a .MOV.

thanx a lot for your attention,

 Fernando Krum.

 2010/9/3 stéfan piat stefanp...@gmail.com

 thanks for clarifying this

when I create pix_film I have this in the pd-console:
 pix_film:: directshow support
 pix_film:: quicktime support

when I open a .mov file (photo-jpeg) I have this:

 [pix_filmNEW]: opening movie.mov with format 1908

 [pix_filmNEW]: ...
 [pix_filmNEW]: loaded file: movie.mov with 1266 frames (720x405) at

how could i force pix_film to use Quicktime ?

Pd-extended currently does not build Gem at all on w32, it takes the
official binary release, which includes QuickTime support.

you can easily check whether yuo do have QuickTime support if you have a
look what's printed to the pd-console when you first create a [pix_film]

anyhow, the problem you probably have is, that DirectShow is able to
open the film quite well, so QuickTime is never tried.
you have to force [pix_film] to use the QuickTime backend.

She used to have an M-audio ext. sound card (don't remember the model)

I recall she said it was working properly some time before our workshop

seems it could be a portaudio update related issue.

I have installed pd0.42.5-extended rc-5 on osx 10.5.8
and on my audio settings I see only input device #1, #2 (no build-in
input//output)

I can't succeed to hear any sounds
when I change channels to 2, I have in the console the following message :
unknown API
and pd crash

any idea ?

thanks

Does it work if you plug in the m-audio?

Something very strange is going on there. Do you have some audio drivers
installed, or like soundflower, or jack, or something like that?

it was working one month ago with the same hardware and

I tried to re-install rc-4 but it's not working any more (strange)

but, as I said already, it works with pd-extended 0.41.4

maybe is it specific to ubuntu and I have to send additionnal messages to
pix_video or pix_record ?

Hmm, strange, it works also fine here on Ubuntu 9.10, Pd-ext 0.41.4 and
 GEM 0.92.2.

and when changing [codec 3( to [codec 0(

though i have to change that as well.
in general it's probably a bad idea to select the codec by number,
because the numbers are derived from the installed codecs on your
system. e.g. '1' can be h.264 on your system and 'png' on my system.

i suggest using the numeric IDs instead: e.g. [codec mjpa( morks fine
 here.
Ok, here [codec 3( is [codec mjpa( and i have no problem with it.

some codecs might be more stable than others (or probably some
parameters are missing for those unstable codecs which makes them crash
  more likely)

 pix_record

maybe is it specific to ubuntu and I have to send additionnal messages

the only specificty that should be there is that nobody knows which
  codecs you have installed...
