On debian (so probably also on ubuntu) the package you're after is the
development one:
libmagickwand-dev
actually it is libmagick++-dev
a good start is usually to install all packages that are used to build
Gem on
libmagickwand-dev
did it though...
$ sudo apt-get build-dep gem
This is what I was hoping for though...
