see there's a 32 bit windows and mac option but only 64 bit linux.

Re: [PD] Draw with mouse in GEM

2017-09-06 Thread Richie Cyngler
Hi Marie,

You could use [gemmouse] to locate your cursor in the gemwin and there's an
object that lets you manipulate a mesh at points but I can't remember what
it's called. The other object that comes to mind is [model] which allows
you to import 3D models from external software, which isn't what you're
asking but might be useful.

I don't know of a way to draw with polygons in GEM, if there is one I'd
love to hear about it too.

cheers
Richie

Thanks Jonathan,

That worked, well purr data installed and runs, audio works but the install
terminal lists a lot of missing dependencies (it does work though).

thanks again

Thanks Ivica, I guess I wasn't clear in my original post. I tried to
install the using the links to arm builds for the current and previous
releases of purr data but the links are not the arm builds.

[PD] install purr data on RPi?

2017-03-29 Thread Richie Cyngler
Hi All,

Does anyone have Purr Data working on RPi 3 with Raspbian? I tried the last
two releases, 2.1.2 & 2.1.1. Downloaded the deb file(s). Fails to install
saying: architecture not matching, package architecture (amd64) not
matching system architecture (armhf). So it seems the link goes to the
wrong file or am I missing something?

cheers

[PD] implementing "motion microscope" in Pd GEM

2016-09-07 Thread Richie Cyngler
Hi all,

Have you seen this? Anyone tried to implement this with Pd with GEM?

Two papers outline two different approaches:

http://people.csail.mit.edu/mrub/papers/vidmag.pdf

and the more recent:
http://people.csail.mit.edu/mrub/vidmag/papers/Balakrishnan_Detecting_Pulse_
from_2013_CVPR_paper.pdf

A video overview of the processes here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=fHfhorJnAEI

I don't follow the maths myself but I was wondering if you think something
like these systems could be implemented in Pd/ GEM with a live feed from
[pix_video]. I know we already have blob tracking. Theoretically it should
be possible?

The main site: http://people.csail.mit.edu/mrub/vidmag/

Anyone interested in this? It seems to have a lot of potential within Pd,
for example interactive installations.

Re: [PD] Muse EEG into Pd OSC issues

2016-01-13 Thread Richie Cyngler
The raw did not trigger an error. But I may have tracked down the problem!
It's not just the OSC objects but [route]

[udpreceive 5010]
|
[t a a]
| \
| \
| [print raw]
|
[unpackOSC]
|
[route /muse]
|
[print osc]

I put some [spigot]s in to test the two [print] streams together and
separately.

The error does not occur reliably until [print] comes out of [route /muse]
but this is the way to get all the good data out.

But then when [print raw] stream is also on the error *does not* trigger.

Seems odd behaviour.

Is there a way to filter some data before [route]?

Re: [PD] Muse EEG into Pd OSC issues

2016-01-12 Thread Richie Cyngler
Thanks Martin,

I've been trying to work out the syntax of how to turn on and off specific
OSC paths to deal with this error but also for efficiency as I won't be
using everything at once and I'm trying to run three headsets at the same
time on different ports. I can't make much sense of the documentation in
terms of the actual commands to use.

[PD] Muse EEG into Pd OSC issues

2016-01-11 Thread Richie Cyngler
Hi all,

I'm recieving data via bluetooth from a Muse EEG headset and trying to
route it into Pd-Extended.

[dumpOSC] is working sometimes but tends to crash Pd when the whole stream
is on.

[udpreceive] seems a lot more stable but is having trouble with data types
and seems to require
|
[unpackOSC] to interpret the data but that object is filling up the console
with this error:

*unpackOSC: PrintTypeTaggedArgs: Type tag said this arg is a string but
it's not!*

Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this error? I guess there's an
unexpected data type being generated by the EEG headset? Other than the
error it seems to work pretty well this way.

Thanks
Richie

Re: [PD] Pduino and arudino mini pro/raspi debian- Pduino or Comport?

2015-09-21 Thread Richie Cyngler
Funny I was just working on this this morning looking for a simple solution
for my students.

I found this http://colinzyskowski.com/?page_id=503 to access analogRead.

It kind of works. The third pot interferes with the other two and when I
modified to code to add a fourth it interfers or doesn't work at all. Seems
to be something to do with the map function Arduino code not workign
correctly because when I poll [comport] with [print] each analogRead seems
to be on it's own "channel". I can't figure out how to separate them any
better than using [split] with there mapped values (not great). I tried
[unpack] and [route] but neither of these separate the data streams.

On the hardware side I just have each 10k pot wiper connected it's own
analog pin on the Uno and each pot is powered and grounded from the Uno via
the rails on my breadboard. I'm guessing but adding in some resistors might
stabilise the circuit a bit, I don't know if this would help with the
interference or not.

As mentioned above I also had to add a dialout to access the serial port as
outlined by Rinzwind here

I tested the device on mac and used the ALLINPUTS firmata and it works
with a virtual serial created by FTDI
just can't seem to talk to it with Linux debian running vanilla

comport works fine with the UNO

mknod? this sounds like you are following advice from the 1990s.
these days mknod is hardly ever needed: instead any devicefiles will be
created on the fly by the resp. drivers.

selecting device in the toggles in the pduino stuff only finds device 0

the serial interface on the GPIO ports - which afaiu is what you want.

so you just use that device.

then you need to get the permissions correct.
check whether the device is already setup to allow group-members to
write to it, and which group that is:
 $ ls -l /dev/ttyAMA0
 crw-rw 1 root dialout 4, 67 Sep 3 16:12 /dev/ttyAMA0

and eventually add the user running Pd to that group:
 pd@raspbian $ sudo bash
 root@raspbian # adduser pd dialout

after that you only need to re-login as that user to let the new group
 membership have any effect.

Re: [PD] Can't input tilde on my Ubuntu

2015-07-28 Thread Richie Cyngler
I've had this on Raspberry Pi. On the Pi it's a keyboard config issue. So
if the suggestions above don't work you could try mucking around with a
different keyboard config or even better actually identify what you
keyboard is and configure for that. Good luck, these kinds of basic issues
tend to be quite frustrating.

No idea, sorry. But I experience similar problems and I may add some
 more details.

When I start pd, I usually can type tilde characters. After switching to
another application and then back to Pd, I can't type tildes anymore in
Pd. And there seems to be no way to restore tilde-typing ability until I
restart Pd. Actually, it is not only the tilde character, but all
characters of the same key cannot be typed anymore (^,`,~). On a Swiss
German layout it is the key left of back space.

After the problem has been triggered, [keyname] still shows the correct
characters, while [key] only outputs 0 for ^, ` and ~.

This problem occurs only on one of two machines with similar setup:

#1: Ubuntu 14.04 i386, Pd 0.46.6 from git, Intel graphics driver
- Problem can be triggered

#2: Ubuntu 14.04 i383, Pd 046.6 from git, Nvidia proprietary driver
- Problem cannot be triggered

I mention graphics drivers specifically, because there were some reports
about Pd crashing X11 while typing in certain Ubuntu setups with Intel
drivers. Maybe this problem is related.

Re: [PD] message box - text editing?

Thanks IOhannes,

Oops I forgot the open in the message box. Nice solution however we would
still have to either have multiple hand written message boxes or manually
edit a message box. Your patch would probably help accidentally overwriting
files though.

On this, is there a good way to adjust say for example file names in

For example:

2014-06-22 Thread Richie Cyngler via Pd-list
Hi IOhannes,

I was referring to the message that comes with this version of Pd-X.
From the console: *WARNING: 64-bit builds are still beta, some libraries
are known to have serious issues (cyclone, maxlib, moonlib, moocow, pdp,

Thanks for your help I followed your instructions and found that I have
both gem_imageTIFF.so and gem_imageMAGICK.so so I disabled gem_imageTIFF.so
and now Pd no longer crashes however GEM: Unable to save image... with
[pix_write]. I tried [pix_writer] but it doesn't respond to a [file name(
or a [bang( and there is no help that I can find. Would you mind explaining
how to use [pix_writer] please. Then if I can get it working I'd be happy
to write a help patch for it.

what exactly are you referring to with the 64th bit?
 how is it buggy?

but according to my searching [pix_write] has had issues for a while?

if it does has issues with PdX-0.43.3 then it will have these issues
forever. i don't think anybody will make a bugfix version of this PdX

 in any case:
 - [pix_write] is deprecated in favour of [pix_writer] (which takes the
incoming PIX to write, rather than creating a snapshot of the current
framebuffer). the deprecation happened because [pix_write] is flawed by
 design rather than any bugs.

 - which imageplugins are you using? search for files called
 gem_image*.so in your extra/Gem/ folder.
if you have both gem_imageTIFF.so and gem_imageMAGICK.so try disabling
one of them (just rename it to something not starting with gem_ not
 ending with .so, e.g. gem_imageTIFF.so.disabled) and see if it helps;
if not try disabling the other one. the MAGICK plugin should be the
