I think that you are right. The dual cable release is required to close
down the aperture and open the shutter simultaneously.
If the lens mount of the bellow unit has that lever which causes the lens
aperture to remain open even if you rotate the aperture ring higher

Dual cable release is nice to have, but not a must.
You can substitute two cable releases.
You just have to push the lens one first before you fire the camera one.

We don't have a clue as to the reflectivity of the umbrella and
that's not the only parameter involved, so there's no real hope
of calculating a correction factor. Do as J.C.O said, get a
flashmeter.

Since you already own it, why keep changing. I assume it will work
for the type of photography you do as well as the K1000 or is there
something unique about it that the LX can't do.
Since you have the LX, why not expand your horizons just a bit at a
time? Take one feature and learn how
Just use the LX to do what you want it to do. At least, if you
should ever need it's special abilities, they will be there. If
you get rid of the LX, there's no way to add those capabilities
into the K1000 when you find that you need them.
If you need the money that selling the LX will provide
I don't use a lot of the features on the LX. I would get rid of my PZ1-p
before I parted with my LX.
