I don't think ever seen so much minimalism. Is it better to have more
minimalism, or less?

Well put, Ann. I yelled up at him and
asked about the whereabouts of his
left leg and was promptly shown
the foot with one toe sticking
straight up. 8-o

Hawk on a stick - yeah the blue sky is perfect.. Hawk looks like he is
scratching himself with other claw hidden by feather, or is he just

I am just south of the tropic. Sunny 16 is right in summertime but probably
Sunny 11 in "winter". I would expect ISO's of about 1000 but am actually
getting up to twice that. I hate tripods.

Wonder if the lens length and light angle are factors. Seems as though
they could be.(?)

Yes, I do, but you may have noticed,
I don't do it with any regularity.
Appreciated, Alan!

Hand held!
That TAV setting is my standard.
Dependable for wing shots as well.
I was hoping for him to take off and
waited for a bit in case.
Thanks again.

Hi, Paul. You gotta love "spell

Thanks for commenting!

Yes,
Is this handheld? If shooting a perched bird off a tripod or even a monopod, I
find that 1/500th is all that’s necessary. I do go to 1/1000th or even
1/2000th for handheld shots with big glass.

Yes, Jack, he is handsome & well caught.
I did some calcs. using the old Sunny 16 rule, @ 1/2000, f8, the ISO should
be 500. I see yours is 640 so the light was probably marginally less than
Bright Sun.
I've been trying the Sigma 170-500 with your 1/2000, f8 formula & find the
ISO's are
Much appreciated, Dan!
The large size of that image
surprised me when I checked the
post.
Recorded size and jpg status were

Handsome indeed!!
I like the arrangement of the branches and how they fit into the image and
frame the bird. It makes for a strong composition. The sky color is
lovely as rendered.
